Jay Leno Files For Conservatorship

I am so saddened to have read that Jay Leno has filed for conservatorship for his wife Mavis who has been diagnosed with dementia. He wants to set up a living trust for her so she will be taken care of in the event of his death. They seemed to have a happy loving marriage, I feel bad for Jay, he seems like a good guy.

it's too bad, that this didn't stay private. It's a very personal situation and navigating it while the public is watching is just too invasive. This is playing out in many families all over and they should have privacy.

My husband has met him several times at car shows. He said he's very nice, friendly to everyone.

If going public for doing what is a very loving thing that Leno has done would encourage others who have similar issues and the financial ability to set up a conservatorship if the sufferer outlives the caretaker, I think his speaking out is a good thing. Leno, of course, is used to being in the public eye, but I hope the invasions of their privacy on this issue are far more positive than ugly. I've seen various levels of dementia in my own family. Even admitting aloud that the problem exists challenges some people.

Very said to hear he is having to deal with his dear wife's inability to handle her personal affairs. I remember him speaking of Mavis so often, always with affection. Dementia is something far too many of us are having to face with our loved ones now. I pray Mavis and Jay can continue to have a loving future together.

I read this on people today. Sad, she isn't that old either. Good for him to take steps to insure she will be well cared for in the event he passes before she does.

I feel sorry about this. He has been married to Mavis for a long time. I always thought that he was a good guy. I am sure he is doing right by his wife. Dementia is so awful.

I saw him one night on his talk show when he brought his wife out. He preceded it by saying that the good she has done for so many charities and needful situations, far exceeded anything he has ever done. He held her up on a pedestal. He was in awe of her. He said he wanted her to come out and talk about some of things she supported. She was very soft spoken and shy.

He came across as a humble guy that became a success. BUT his wife, in his eyes, was the star.

When I quickly read a partial headline today, I thought it was going to say that Jay filed for divorce. Once I opened the article and read the complete headline, I saw that it was for a conservatorship. How tragic. Mavis is his life, as they made the decision as a young couple, not to have children. Jay once said that they felt that raising children was not compatible with a career in the entertainment industry. I hope he has a strong support system. I have a relative that is rapidly declining with dementia and she's a very young 71 years old. Her husband (my cousin) is beside himself.

He is usually at the Barrett Jackson car sale every year. Don't know if he made it this year. He should set up something so his wife is properly taken care of.

Just learned of this the other day. So sad, for this to happen. This is such a horrible thing for families to go through. There's so many horrible things, but I can't imagine the pain of this one. Best wishes to him and his family.

He really didn't have to make her condition public, although there's nothing to be ashamed of.

She isn't even a 'public personality' and may not have wanted her condition to be broadcast to the world.

If it were me, my DH would be burned at the stake, but maybe she was okay with it.

I think if would be nice, to do what he did to protect her in the future, but to broadcast why was unnecessary, if not self serving.

From what I've read, the sources cite court documents so it's not like he held a press conference. Someone may have scoured the court filings to see the latest goings on with anyone famous.
