Toni's Puppy

For a long time, Toni had been asking her parents if they could get a puppy.

Last year, their neighbor's Fox Terrier had puppies and Toni was allowed to choose one.

There was one frisky, playful little puppy, who seemed to be attracted to Toni. They played together and Toni decided that would be her puppy, she was so cuddly and sweet. Toni named her Trixie.

Trixie came home with Toni and her parents.

They bought toys, dishes, a collar and a leash.

A nice soft little bed was put in Toni's room for Trixie.

Toni taught Trixie how to walk with a leash and how to play fetch with a ball. Trixie loves to run and play in the back yard with Toni and her friends.

Toni is wearing a little terrier print dress from my Toni doll dress collection. I made this dress with cotton fabrics in the 1950's style of the original Toni doll dresses. At the neckline, is a little wooden terrier button and crisp white collar.

@Enufstuff When I was six years old, we got a puppy and named him Trixie. He was a terrier and he lived 17 years. I can still see him in my mind; he was a wonderful boy.

Toni will love her Trixie too

@KathyM23 Wow! That is amazing. What a coincidence.

A first pet for a child is so special and a great learning experience in responsibility.

My first pet was a Cocker Spaniel, when I was 8 years old.

My grandmother's dog had 7 puppies and she let me choose the one that I wanted. My Cindy lived for 15 years.

@on the bay Thank you very much. Trixie is actually a little Steiff terrier that was created and sold as a pet for Ginny dolls in the 50's. It's name was Sparky. Sparky is looking a little dingey after almost 70 years. The neck ribbon has faded too.

I have had that little dog, along with my Ginny dolls, since I was 7 years old. I took the little plaid coat off the pup, since "Ginny's Pup" is printed on it.

I think that it should have had the puppy's name on the coat.

What a beautiful dress, perfection! I love the story of Toni and Trixie, heartwarming! I remember Sparky in the Ginny collection. I may have had Sparky as I recall. Thanks for sharing your creativity and story!

@spiderwThank you very much. You are correct. I just looked up the spelling of the dog's name and I had the incorrect spelling.

It should have been "Sparky".

@Kachina624 Thank you very much. If you read post #5 on this thread, I wrote about how I removed the "Ginny's Pup" plaid coat.

I'm not that ambitious to make a dog coat.

It's funny that you should mention a pony. A few weeks ago, I spent days researching Breyer horses, for a Ginny doll.

My cousin, who is two weeks younger than me, was an Equestrian from 12-18 years old. She had two horses and spent most of her teen years at the stables. She rode and competed in jumping and showing her horses.

We were talking recently about the dolls that we had and she mentioned that she loved playing Ginny's at my house, when we were little. She never had a Ginny doll and said that she might like to get one.

That was all I needed and the search was on. I found one that looked just like her as a child. It had short straight light blonde hair in a bob style and brown eyes.

Then I decided to find an outfit for it. I could not believe it when I found a Ginny doll dresses in an Equestrian outfit. It had a brown helmet, tan jodhpers and a little jersey with tiny green horseshoes print. That doll looked like me as a child, with brown eyes and brown hair in braids. Of course, I bought that doll too. I put the riding outfit on the blonde doll.

Now she needed a horse. I found a Quarter Horse like my cousin had, made by Breyer. Then I had to get an English saddle and bridle, that I found at Macy's.

The doll and horse are wrapped in acid free tissue paper, in a box. I hope that I can wait until May, to give them to her for her birthday. She will flip out.

Oh, Toni won't be getting a pony. Breyer doesn't make one that size and a Steiff that size would be too costly. Besides, they would not have a place to keep a pony and beyond the family's budget to board it.

Your cousin is going to be absolutely thrilled. How kind of you to do this for her and what fun you've had with it.

Another precious vignette with Toni and Trixi. That little guy looks great for being "vintage." I had no idea Steiff made anything other than bears, but I never really looked into it as they were too pricey for me.

I collected a few Boyd's Bears when QVC sold them and was curious about the higher end bears.

The dress is beyond precious with the tiny dogs on it. Very sweet, as usual.

Steiff makes many kinds of animals. The first one that they made was a little elephant. They made circus animals.

They only made bears after the Teddy Roosevelt story became known.

My daughter's married name is Bacon and she is carrying on the tradition, as her mother-in-law started, of collecting pigs.

I bought her a little Steiff pig and a Beany Baby pig for my grand daughter.

Like you, back in the day, I collected some Boyd's Bears and gave some to grand children. In my bear collection are a few Steiffs, Hermann's and Mary Meyer's.

About 20 years ago, there was a woman who took old mink and other fur coats and made cute little bears from them. She took the lining fabrics and made little bow ties for the bears. She sold them at the gift shop of the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Boston and in a little boutique in the ocean resort town where she lived, north of Boston. I discovered the bears in the little boutique and bought a few. I told my daughters that they can have them, when I'm gone. They are in a living room chair, and I still like looking at them.
