Just Did The Window 11 Upgrade on my Computer... All Good Yippee!

Bought a laptop computer from Costco about 2 years ago. It came with Windows 10 but there was a free Upgrade to Windows 11 built in the computer. I was pleased using Windows 10, so everytime the reminder came up on the computer if I wanted to proceed with the upgrade, all I had to do was click on Upgrade Now.

I've procrastinated because I was afraid the upgrade might become a problem and I would be stuck not knowing what to do. This morning, before I had my coffee I booted my computer and one of those reminders came up on the screen. I must have been half awake because I clicked on Upgrade Now, instead of Not Now, Remind me Later.

Well, I'm pleased to share that the download of Windows 11 went seamlessly and it even allowed me to continue using Windows 10 checking my email, going online, etc, while the download took place.

It's pretty much like Windows 10 with the exception of a few things to be found in a slightly different place on the taskbar. I'm pleased, and so will my son be because I won't have to have him come and undo and/or fix something I screwed up. lol

When I did the Win11 update, I didn't see much difference from Win10. From what I understand the update was suppose to patch some security issues which Win10 has. Win11 is suppose to be more secure.

Yes, that's exactly what my son told me. Windows11 more secure. Only difference is a slightly different interface and a few new features. I actually don't see those differences, at least not yet. To me, it looks pretty much the same.

Another procrastinator here but you now have me also thinking about taking the plunge, although I think I will wait a little while longer and you can report back in another week or so and let us know how things are going and if you are still pleased with it.

I updated to Windows 11 on my Dell about a month ago. I elected to try "dark mode," as I didn't know what it meant. Now my blue screen is gone and the back ground is black. What I like? No more blue-screen headaches.

What is a problem? Harder to see typos in emails I am sending and a lot of my day is spent working through emails. The no-headache factor is the most important, though!

I couldn't tell you how many times I have tried to update to Windows 11. I get a notice at least once a day.

When I have tried to update, it never has gone through. And on occasion it has crashed my computer.

When you decide to update, I hope you have better luck than me.

@drizzellla ...Thanks so much for sharing your experience...Everything is working fine as is so why take any chances in updating if not necessary...I am also planning on getting a new computer this year so I will just wait and see what is recommended at that time.

LOL @SaveTheTurtles i always say it is one of the main reasons why i had kids.....

first four people i call with my problems.....my 3 kids and my son in law. LOL

@Sunshine Kate I just hit Update Now. It didn't instruct to disable anything prior to hitting the Update Now button. It took about 5 minutes for the update to complete. There's a screen that comes up while the update is completing. It says something like, "update in progress, don't turn off your computer" and you'll see a small, don't know what you call it, circular arrow turning to let you know the update is progressing along. At the end of the update, it instructs that it will automatically reboot on it's own. Honestly, you don't do anything but let it do its thing. It even asked me before the update if I wanted to continue using Windows10 for whatever I wanted to do like I normally do. I said, 'yes', and while it was updating I was in here checking on the forum threads.

p.s. I'm glad I updated. I like the added security that Windows10 didn't have, and I like everything about Windows11. There's barely no difference in how it looks from Windows10 using it. The only slight difference I found was on the taskbar, my power/shutdown icon was on the left side and now it's still on the left side but has a blue square cube (easier to see) that you click on. Otherwise, no difference in navitaging, browsing or anything else. All your bookmarks, apps, etc. all transfer exactly as you had them in Windows10.

For my PC, the Win11 update took around 15 minutes. But that can vary depending on the age of your computer. Computers (usually newer ones) with a solid state drive (SSD) will install faster.

I did not have to disable my anti-virus software to do the update.

My HP Window 10s all in one desk top tells me mine is not compatable to update it to Windows 11!

I was wanting to upgrade to 11 also for security,etc.
