Thankful for Our Fireplace!

It's currently 62* in our house! It was a balmy 66* earlier today. The furnace kicks on, but doesn't warm up, it's blowing cool air. Needless to say, I'll be staying downstairs tonight and stoking the blaze. Our heating guy will be here at 8:00 AM tomorrow morning. 🥶

@spumoni99 I have one of those heated cape type things that I use for my shoulders and back. I may have to use that tonight too. My sister-in-law's house csught fire from an electric blanket that was left on. This was decades ago so hope they have better safety features now. DH probably wouldn't want one anyway. I layer up at night and he's fine with one blanket. 🤷‍♀️

@JeanLouiseFinch I've always been afraid of an electric blanket too. I have heard of them catching on fire.

I'm sure the incidents of that happening are rare but I just never wanted to take the chance.

I did buy an electric throw many years ago and have never used it. It just sits in my cedar chest.

I hope your heat is fixed tomorrow. There's nothing more miserable than being cold.

i had an electric blanket years ago when I lived close to the mountains; loved using it during the really cold, snowy winters. I didn't know they even still sold electric blankets. I have become a fan of a weighted blanket that I received as a gift last year. I hope your heat is back on asap. Stay warm by the fire!

My husband uses an electric blanket every night, it does have an auto shutoff.

My furnace did that two weeks ago on a Sunday. I texted the guy who installed it just one year ago and he sent someout out within the hour to fix it. Poor guy had to travel 30 miles to my house. Turned out to be a loose wire that prevented the fan from turning on.

I've had electric blankets ever since I was a young teenager. Never had a problem with any of them. The one I currently have is about 30 yrs old and never gets turned off from October to May, unless I'm going out of town. If it goes out I have a new one ready to take it's place. I've always been cold and can take lots of heat.

Well, DH never came downstairs. I was super toasty down here all night, even had to let the fire die down for a little while. I just started it up again. Fortunately we have a natural gas starter so it's easy - not like the old days of wadding up newspaper, kindling, and using a bellows. The only partial mishap was that I went to the garage for more wood. I couldn't see the steps as I descended and thought I made it to the landing but I actually missed the last step. It's a good thing our rack of grab 'n' go work jackets and coats cushioned the wall I stumbled into. I went straight down, never letting go of my box of logs LOL. I had neck fusion surgery several years ago and the surgeon's parting words at my last appointment with him were "protect your neck". That's always in the forefront of my mind. I was mindful of it the entire time. I twisted my right wrist and right knee a little and popped my left ankle as I tripped, but the neck is good. I think everything is fine, just a little sore. Actually, I think the ankle a little less stiff than usual. Life can be a comedy of errors sometimes. 🤷‍♀️😁

Been there, done that...waiting for it to happen again as our heat pump is at the end of it's predicted lifespan! But we have a gas fireplace that actually heats the living room, dining room, kitchen (open concept) and makes the master bedroom tolerable to sleep in.

Doesn't reach the bathroom, though...those middle of the night visits were COLD!

We bought a electric fireplace insert a couple of years ago and love it. It warms up the family room, kitchen even into the living room. It looks and sounds great.
