I was reading an article about companies that are not American owned and Trader Joe's info was surprising.

Some of you may already know this, but I certainly did not. As the saying goes, learn something new everyday.!

Aldi came and conquered. I won't be surprised if Aldi will own Pulix and Wegmans in a few years.

@Pezzie Thanks for that info because I also had no idea. Now that I know, lots of the differences between the 2 chains makes a whole lot more sense to me. The main difference that I note is that Aldi here dumps everything you buy right back into the cart - pack your own, but get out of the way!

Trader Joes's, on the other hand, is efficiently set up to quickly pack a full order into sturdy paper bags. Also, no matter how busy the store is, the staff is helpful.

@millieshops I have never shopped at Aldi's as we don't have one close by. Trader Joe's is where I end up if I am not shopping at my local Fry's, and I find them very helpful and their staff is great.

@songbird ALDi has operated stores in the US since the 1970s

I have Trader Joe's and later Aldi's opened in the same strip mall...Why both a quick walk away from each other...competition?

I love Trader Joe's.

All nice employees and customers, too.

I don't have to avoid the laundry detergent section. No strong-strong chemical odors in that aisle.

They also have a beauty section (lotions, etc.) which I sometimes try 'this and that'. No complaints.

Anyway, I'm so happy to have a Trader Joe's nearby.

Prices are good, no coupons needed. No weekly ads to keep track, etc.

I don't know anything about Publix, but I highly doubt Aldi will own Wegmans in the future. They are two totally different types of grocery chains in many ways.

Our Aldi and Trader Joe's are close to each other. I shop at both.

Aldi really took off when they modernized, accepted credit cards and stocked organic food.

I read that the brothers weren't close and one sued the other.

These are all wonderful companies. If they're not American made, so what? This is an equal opportunity Country, right?

Yes, I was aware. From what I understand is the Aldi's business model is all about efficiency. Whereas Trader Joe's is more about the customer experience. Also, until recently, they mostly stayed away from each other.

We first got an Aldi's, but I've never sthopped there. The fact that they didn't accept credit cards and I rarely ever have much cash on me was one reason. The're also in an inconvenient location with terrible traffic. But, I know you can sometimes get really good deals there.

A couple of years ago Trader Joe's moved in in the neighboring city. I can stop by there on the way home from some of my regular activities. They won't replace my regular grocery store though. It can be fun to stop in on occasion, but I've found a lot of their frozen foods are sub par. Plus, it seems they generate interest by continually discontinuing popular products and adding in new products. I was able to get eggs there at a much cheaper price then the grocery though after they skyrocketed in price. I don't think my store, which is a bit on the smaller side, gets all the same stock as some of the other stores do.

I knew this information about the two stores, too. There is no Aldi's here. I don't buy a great deal at TJ's but it is an upbeat store with friendly cashiers.

I live in the heart of Wegman's country but I actually shop more often at both Aldi's and T. J. Aldi's prices are lower than T.J. Products are different as well for the most part. However, Aldi's has the BEST chocolate around! Their produce, not so much except for romaine, spinach and oranges. Nice to have such food choices. We are lucky in this country of ours....

I am not crazy about all of Trader Joe’s offerings, but some things are priced better than regular, grocery stores like butter and milk, some bread, items spices, canned goods are usually a good value too. I’m there about every week.

I went into an ALDIs and did not like it one bit. Seemed kind second hand setup for lack of a better term.
