NEW STOVE/RANGE QUESTION:

Today I received my new stove/range (honestly don't know the difference. It has a back to it and a glass cook top, and oven.)

I read online, to clean it with warm, soapy water, wipe dry, and then run it on "BAKE" for 1 hour at 350°.

Question:

*warm, soapy water. Is this just Dawn and warm water?

*bake 1 hour. This is my very first new stove/range. I did not receive an instruction manual, and the online manual does not mention anything about the first time use. Is this what you all suggest?

Warm soapy water for me = dawn liquid detergent and warm water

For any new oven I have always 'burned off' the interior. I don't know what they coat the inside of ovens with, but it smells horrible. So yes, 350 degrees for 60 minutes would be fine. I turn on my fan/vent too whenever my ovens are on.

@BeeChee I have had a number of new stoves over the years. The dawn soap and warm water is meant to wipe it down prior to first use. I can't recall having to turn the oven on for an hour. Not sure if they are instructing that to burn off chemical smell or what. I would think that this information would be in the online manual if you didn't get one with your purchase. You should be able to search by brand.

@BeeChee. Most owner's Manuel's are now online. Simply Google "users manual fo the name and model #".

Seems like your instructions were very simple. I'd do exactly as they said. Of course they meant something like Dawn and warm water.

I just had a new gas stove installed last week. After the delivery man hooked it all up, he started the oven and set it to run for 30 minutes. It burns off the oil they put on it to keep it from rusting (or so I'm told). Thankfully I was able to open a couple of windows and move our smoke alarm because it was really hazy and smelly in my kitchen while it was on.

If it's not in the manufacturer's printed or online manual, I wouldn't do it. Wouldn't want to risk voiding the warranty.
