Barnes Noble visit

Saturday, we went to Barnes Noble. It was once considered a dying business due to on line sale &, kindle books but it was busy with long lines to check out.

Nice inventory of gifts, puzzles, games, cards and of course books. There is coffee and magazines.

It was a good rediscovery.

I agree and think it's great that people still enjoy actual books! I love that store and DH and I can spend a lot of time in one and just get carried away. There is so much to discover.

We have a new Barnes and Noble near me. It just opened a few weeks ago. I was in there in Friday and it was packed.

That is encouraging news. Maybe they will reopen some of the stores that they closed.

We have a Barnes and Noble store close to us.

I have no need to visit often but it always seems busy.

Nice selection of books and a great book section and toys for the kids.

I love Barnes & Noble! I can always find a book or two ( or three, or...). Oops, I think I may have a B&N problem!

I love B&N and could spend hours there if my physical limitations did not interfere right now . Same for vDH.

I just purchased books a few weeks ago but I knew which ones I wanted.

I need to pick up the book and read the synopsis myself. I could never use a Kindle or whatever is out there. Online descriptions do nothing for me.

I need to hold the actual book and actually turn the pages.

I know that sounds weird.🤪 I think it goes back to the time when my oldest sister would take me every week to the library.

Plus I can still purchase CDS there and we have bought some interesting items for the grandchildren.

I realize not everyone can get out but I speak only for me.

@granddi Good news to hear! I love book stores and prefer the "feel" of an actual book in my hand as opposed to a digital device.

I am glad Barnes and Noble seem to be doing well but please support if you can independent neighborhood book shops which are an endangered species.

@cheriere my daughter was a die hard, pry that actual book out of my dying hands and then she got a Kindle in July and she's not going back, lol!

@granddi Our B&N has a great bakery and sandwich shop inside. It makes a nice little outing to scour for a good book and get a treat on the way out or sit and relax with a coffee.

They are going to build a new Barnes and Noble near me. Was surprised to hear that. We still have quite a few stores near us.

@Franell I have not seen such a book shop in 50 years. It was actually Borders who was responsible for that decline. Now Borders is gone at least around here.

The only book shops here are used book stores and you can sell yours for pennies at some. However the only books I ever bought were a few cookbooks.

Do you have locally owned new books stores? I hope they can stay afloat.

The best gift card I ever got was from my son for Barnes and Noble. It was years ago and I was so excited that of course I had to spend it. It was like being a kid in a candy store.My father's favorite stores were stationary and book stores.

I used to go a lot but hadn't in a long time-the pandemic and everything.

Anyway, I went to look for a book after seeing it online. It was as usual more than it was online. The sales lady said she would give it to me for the online price. I don't know if they do that regularly but that was wonderful.

I always wondered if aside from the pandemic and people spending less, if that might have been one of the things that hurt their sales-charging more than their online books.

They do have wonderful children's and infants toys. Their children's section is so much fun too.

They had a Christmas coffee years ago that was so good. I used to always get their expresso with foam. I liked their pretty stationary sets too. They had several isles in the past of discounted books of all kinds. Their cds and unique gifts were special too.

Even if not buying anything, it is a great place to visit and take some moments to be in a world of relaxing books. People there are usually more polite and relaxed there too.

@cheriere Yes it is! I love that you can look up a book and find the exact location (if you're in a hurry). Right now you get a free Christmas cookie with any purchase.

At this point, I can't afford books and can't afford the space for them. My reading is done on line now. I need to get rid of more books, but it is difficult for me to do.

Used to love Border Books . Would make a great Sunday afternoon , sipping coffee and reading .

Now , I take my Grandchild to Barnes and noble . I let him pick out books for me to read to him. They have a terrific collection of legos. Usually buy him a book and a small lego kit . We have hot chocolate at their B& N cafe .

Have also special ordered books from them that they did not have in stock .

We had one in our town but sadly it closed. We had another large bookshop about 30 minutes away. I met Donna Leone there, one of my favorite mystery writers who was giving a talk. Unfortunately that one closed too. I think Amazon has gobbled up the majority of book sales.
