Be Sure to Ask for your Senior Discount!

I had forgotten over the years about using my senior discounts.

I wasn't able to copy the long list because I have a stupid laptop lol but it's worth a look! Google the complete list of senior discounts for 2023.

The list covers everything from grocery, travel, hotels, fast food chains, retail, rental cars, activities and entertainment, etc...

Some start at 50 years old.

You must ask for your discount!

I always ask for a senior discount, all they can do is say no.

The retailers in my neck of the woods will only honor "50" if you have an AARP card.

good reminder, I usually don't think about asking for it. We had a group of us who went to the movies (before covid) and we were behind a bunch of younger people. When we got to the front of the line, the person working the ticket counter gave us all the senior discount (we didn't ask for it and none of us were over 50 at the time). We sort of laughed about it since I guess the contrast between the 6 adults vs the teenagers made her decided we deserved it.

lol that's the one place I always used it for but I think you have to go at a certain time but I like saving a few bucks.

And, for many you must have an AARP membership or be on government assistance.

I looked at the list and noticed that many of the stores are not in my area and most are for services I don't use.

There is a family owned grocery store in my area that offers discounts on Wednesday and yes, you have to ask.

I don't need a discount now, but could have used one when my kids were young and we didn't have much money.

@Carmie , I agree. I see so many families in the store with overflowing carts and I don't know how they do it. I guess we are blessed being older we can afford what we need. That is not the case in all instances. It breaks my heart when working at the food pantry a man or woman will come in to sign up and they are in their 80's/90's.

My vet gives a 10% discount on most services and I have 3 cats so it does come in handy. I'm always appreciative of any discount given.

I just asked for a senior discount at Taco Bell the other night and was told they do not have one but seniors get free drinks! Can't hurt to ask! Thanks for the reminder.

Kohl's gives seniors 15% discount every Wednesday on top of their coupons & sales if you ask. ~~Non-seniors get it too as the cashiers never ask for ID.~~

So Jersey folks.......There is one Kohl's store that gives the senior discount every day if you ask! It's the one across the street from the Cherry Hill Mall.

We offer a 15% discount every Wednesday in our stores to customers aged 60 or better.

We had a locksmith over last week and john asked him for senior and veterans discounts and got both, think he always does

Taco Bell is on the list and McDonalds has free coffee. Wendy's has 10% off and many of the fast food chains have some sort of free or discount.

Some donut places have something free or discount.

Senior discounts was originally started to help seniors on a limited income. It was really not intended just because your old.if you need the help, by all means use it

My best perk is that I have a neighbor that still works at a Security type office and they have lots of trainings with lunches and food brought in. She is always bringing me something good from a meeting. yay They buy good stuff too. lol

She is still working full time at 75 years old well because she has to.

A lot of services like sewer cleaning and plumbers will give a senior discount. When they give me the estimate I always ask!

@Carmie. I don't belong to AARP, don't ever intend to join. If someone told me I needed their card to get a senior discount when I had a legal ID available, I'd be talking to the manager or higher.

@Kachina624 I refuse to join as well. There are many things about that organization that I don't agree with.

That said, AARP offers many perks to their members. One of those perks is discounts at certain businesses.

You must be a member to get those discounts. Businesses are well within their rights to make sure you are a member before giving you a discount.

@Carmie. Apparently the discount in question was represented as a "senior" discount, not one for AARP.
