Toni's Holiday Visitors

Toni's two cousins have arrived from Canada, with their parents and will be staying with Toni and her family for the holidays. They always have fun together.

The three girls had a busy day, working on Christmas decorations. First, they decorated windows with Glass Wax and Christmas stencils. Then they cut snowflakes from white paper and hung those up. Now they are making paper chains from colored paper and will hang those on the Christmas tree tomorrow.

Next week, they will be making cookies. They love making cutout sugar cookies and decorating them with buttercream frosting and colorful sugars and candy toppings.

They will also use a cookie press to make pretty little butter cookies. They will be sure to save some of their best cooky creations for Santa.

After all the decorating and baking is done,they will wrap the gifts that they have for

family.

On Christmas Eve, they will go to Midnight Mass with their parents and then go home and hang up their Christmas stockings for Santa to fill. They will leave Santa's

cookies on a pretty Christmas plate and leave carrots for the Reindeer.

The three girls are happy to be together for Christmas and are excited for Santa to come. They will have a big family Christmas dinner and play games and sing Christmas carols.

Toni and her cousins wish everyone a Blessed Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Joyeux Noel !

P.S. These two girls are the latest additions to my Toni Doll collection. They were "Rescues". I cleaned them up, shampooed and curled their hair (it was in rough shape). I washed all their clothes and ironed their dresses.

They turned out to be pretty little girls. Their cousin Toni, will be back before Christmas, modeling her Christmas dress.

@Iwantcoffee@DD2S Thank you very much. I didn't make those dresses. The brunette is wearing her original clothes, socks and shoes. The blonde is wearing a home made dress from previous owner and I think that the shoes are replacements also.

It was fun, but a rather long process, "perming" their hair.

I made little curlers from fat drinking straws and end papers from tissue paper.

When I combed out the blonde hair, I looked at the curl pattern and thought that she should be named Marilyn.

She has that iconic 'Blonde Bombshell" hairdo.

@Enufstuff I have been looking forward to your Toni post. The 2 new girls are beautiful! I have some American Character dolls from my childhood. I love seeing pictures of dolls from that era. You are a talented doll artist. Thank you for sharing your collection.

@Enufstuff , the cousins are DARLING. Love their little plaid dresses, their glossy locks that you labored over so successfully, their little shoes... As usual, the accompanying story is enchanting. If you have dubbed the blonde "Marilyn" in your mind, what name would you give to the brunette?

Also love their charming wallpaper backdrop, with clusters of cherries and strawberries-- adorable!

The shoes, socks and dresses are perfection. Made me laugh with delight seeing them.

After reading their plans, I decided I want to live in Toni's world!

@Oznell Thank you very much. Colette Marie would seem to be an appropriate name for the little brunette; being a little girl from Quebec.

Marilyn only came to mind when I saw her hair style. Perhaps Michelle Renee would be a better name for a little blonde girl from Quebec.

The backdrop is actually my kitchen wallpaper. I wanted something with a 1930's - 40's era design to go with my Fiesta Ware and antique ice box and Hoosier cabinet.

@Enuffstuff American Character did have lovely dolls. I have an 18" Sweet Sue hard plastic walker doll. I think she was called the School Girl doll. She needs a new dress, but the hard plastic is in excellent condition. Then a Sweet Sue Sophisticate Bride Doll, from the late 50's. The Sophisticates had beautiful clothes for day time and evening wear. I think they were intended to compete with the Miss Revlon dolls. They were vinyl, rather than hard plastic. The walker doll has a sweet face. The bride doll has an especially pretty face. They sit on a closet shelf where I can see them, and I enjoy the memories they evoke.

@EastCoastGal Thank you very much. Like you, we visited our grandparents on Christmas and saw all our aunts, uncles and cousins. There were 16 cousins.

Three of us girl cousins were the same age. We were all born a week apart in May. None of us had sisters, only brothers. So, we were almost like sisters, growing up. It was fun and we played together often.

Sadly, our oldest May cousin past away in 2019. My younger cousin and I still get together every couple of months to have lunch and maybe do something fun.

The Christmas when we were six years old, we asked Santa for Toni dolls. We were disappointed on Christmas morning, when Santa had not brought our dolls.

Later that day, we visited our grand parents and Surprise! We all got the dolls that we had wished for. Toni's were a very popular doll in the 50's.

When we visited my other grandmother, she also had a Toni doll for me. One doll was platinum blonde and the second one was what I called "lemon" blonde.

@LMinAZ How wonderful that you still have your beautiful dolls. I remember Sweet Sue and I always wanted a bride doll.

Instead, I got a nun doll. (Were my parents trying to tell me something?) I actually did consider becoming a nun, for about a week, when I was in high school. After reading "The Good Earth", I wanted to be a missionary nun working with orphan children.

Getting back to dolls, I did have a Miss Revlon and a ballerina.

The dolls that I still have are the Toni dolls and my Ginny dolls and some Madame Alexanders.

My mother loved and collected dolls and I guess I inherited

that from her.

@BoopOMatic Your Christmas girls are adorable. They remind me of dolls that Marie Osmond made. I think the name was

"Adora Belle" and had those big eyes. Cute!
