Zulily Shutting Down

It was great for a time. Closing out sale underway. Too bad.

Qurate got out while it could.

The CEO left, 800 hundred laid off last week, Seattle office footprint greatly reduced. Lawsuits from unpaid vendors.

Got out while they could? Qurate was the entity that destroyed Zulily. If they hadn't been profitable, they would never have bought it. The year before Qurate made the acquisition, Zulily's sales increased about 17%, and they'd increased every year. It's as though Qurate made the purchase to destroy the competition. Well, they've apparently done it.

Yes, I also got some absolutely fantastic items from Zulily over the last many years. And there was a time their customer service was the best going! But over the last year or more I've not ordered much. Their prices seemed higher and they didn't have as many unique items. And the very last time I dealt with customer service I got a surly rep and it turned me off. She yelled at me for no reason and I was quite surprised.

I really do hate to see them go and I especially feel bad for the employees losing their jobs.

I also bought many fabulous items over the years at terrific prices: towel sets, sheets, flatware, dinnerware sets, rugs......

Oh well, one more app to delete from my phone.

One of the stupidest things about Zulily was that they usually would not let you see what they had until after you logged in. That stopped me from shopping many times. I knew my email but I'd forget my password and didn't feel like looking it up. They stopped that practice a couple of times, but went back to it. I liked getting perfumes from them. I don't know what led to their troubles because they sold so many cute things and their prices were good.

I just read this online, I was right about their asking for your info before you could see what they had. I thought it was stupid when they did it. Quoted from a site called Failory dot com.

"Why did Zulily fail?

Zulily's inadequate marketing strategy and front-page email requests discouraged thousands of potential new customers to sign up, while their existing users often"

I tried to check it out a couple times but, I think you had to provide your email before you could even look at anything if I am remembering correctly. I didn't like that.

Haven't seen nor heard anything about this. I have dollars in credits fron returns, I better find something(s) and use it up before I lose it.

It's really difficult I've found to actually have clothes fit properly from zulily. It never seems to fit as it's either too small or too big regardless of their size charts hence the reason for $$$ credits.

I figured something was off with them. Every holiday season. I order Moose Munch made by Harry and David from Zulily. This year there were no offerings.

Also missing, were Mrs. Prindables, and Juniors's cheesecake along with many other food brands. I was thinking that this is odd. They didn't even have any nonperishable food items like hard candy.

Now I know why.

When I first shopped there it was fun, then something changed.

Worse than 7-10 day shipping. It took f-o-r-e-v-e-r to get things to my door. The shipping was also expensive for as long as it took.

Some cute clothing, but dubious as to who the brands were.

I gave up and only purchased when I felt it was a bargain that I didn't need quickly.

I believe that this was Zulily's primary challenge, not ownership by Qurate.

The FTC filed revised anti-trust complaints against Amazon last month. The entire FTC complaint is available online.

Amazon targeted Zulily to stifle competition, FTC alleges

In the new version, the FTC alleges that Amazon targeted sellers who sold on both Amazon and Zulily, punishing these sellers if they offered lower prices on Zulily through one of the company's flash sales, a core part of Zulily's business at the time.

Sad to see people put out of work by monopolistic practices by any company. Aside from any competition from Amz, I, too, stopped shopping at Zulily once it was purchased by Quarate. The site looked messy and overcrowded and I didn't enjoy the experience any longer.

The Zulily fulfillment center in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Park.

The State of Nevada reports that 273 jobs will be lost on February 7th.

Checking reviews and reading between the lines, I realized a lot of the reason it was on Zulilly in the first place was because the sizing was off.

See! I predicted this would happen and I will bet most of you did too when all of the complicated password chaos began!

I got caught in the middle of it when zoom refused to recognize me...I kept FAILING at signing in [who commits their google password to memory?]

Anyway, the issue for me got so complicated...I'm still having rebounds to this day!

It turned out that my email (which I use for every single thing in the universe) did not match up with my "contact" name.

blows my mind!

I predicted that many shoppers would just move on and not sign in and here we see proof!
