If you had this Sunbeam electric blanket it was recalled in March. Model number

32810027

Just a heads up, since it's been awhile. Check your sunbeam blankets. I believe this was only for the Queen size. The recall was due to over heating.

Quoted from the CPSC page for the recall:

This recall involves the Sunbeam Queen Size Heated Blanket, model number 32810027. The blankets were sold with detachable controllers and in the following colors: beige, ivory, light green, dark blue, light blue, burgundy, dark gray, light gray and gray violet. The Sunbeam logo and the model number are printed on the wash label affixed to the blanket.

Remedy:

Consumers should immediately stop using and unplug the recalled blankets and contact Star Elite for a full refund. Consumers will be asked to complete the online recall registration form available at www.productrecall.sunbeamhome.com and to destroy the blanket by cutting the power cord at the plug, marking an “X” with permanent marker on the wash label and sending the recalling firm a photo of the destroyed blanket.

Makes me wonder if our new electric blanket will overheat or catch on fire while sleeping. I turn mine off when I get in bed. It's still plugged in so IMO it can catch on fire?

I don't know what else to use to stay warm. I put the heater on 65 or 66 depending on temp that night. We don't like lots of heavy covers to sleep with.

We had a waterbed years ago where the heater for it shorted out. It burnt a hole in the mattress but it kept melting it back together. We found it when we were packing to go on vacation. We had to deal with it when we got home after we unplugged it & drained it.

We got a new mattress with heater when we got home since it was still under warranty.

The one we were using is old. One controller won't stay on.

I looked over trying to find one I could put in the dryer. Most say hang dry? Where you suppose to do that when it's cold outside?

That might work in the winter. I bought one years ago but we really didn't like it. I would also have to find some place to store it because it's too hot on the bed in the summer.

@Nightowlz @I think the last BR recall was in 2007. Sites are saying not to put the blankets in the spin cycle either, but owners are told by the mfrs to follow the directions on their blankets. I think you're right in not using the blanket with the faulty controller. For me, if I had a BR, I'd try it, but that is up to you.
