I posted this earlier Public service reminder we know you love your kids and grandkids. Child predators prey on these site for just such photos. Be careful what you post, I will be interested in the kick back I get on my post.

@I am still oxox. Ive also heard scammers get the info for those phone calls to grandma needing money to get out of a bind come from what people have posted on Facebook.

I would absolutely NEVER post pictures of family on facebook. I am amazed at all of the people who do though.

I always make sure whatever I post is to be seen by friends only, and I don't friend anybody unless I know them well.

I rarely ever even take family pics. I posted one of me and my daughter when she graduated from college, but she knows I would't bail her out. Years ago, when she first started driving, I almost didn't believe the caller that told me she had been in a wreck. She had only left the house a few minutes prior. The person had to mention the Mormon Church by where she had the wreck to convince me. It was just down the road from the house.

You can always make your Facebook pics visible to only Friends. Many people do that and then forget when they try to post one in a Group. That's why I always just upload my pics to Groups rather than sharing from my Albums.

Good post and good reminder. It is sad, though, that there are some that need to be reminded of what should be common sense. Also, items monogrammed with a child's name on such things as outerwear and bookbags are not a good idea.

You should never post you are away/on vacation, etc., on Facebook either.

You will find yourself coming home to your house being robbed or worse yet, someone in your home waiting for you.

@Kachina624 Yes, this one you mentioned has been going on for a while.

in fact, I just recently read that it will get worse do to artificial intelligence a.k.a. AI because with it they can now get a sample of their voice from social media or whatever, and duplicate it to really make it sound authentic.

It's becoming hard not to be cynical of everything and everyone.

What EXACTLY can a predator get off FB that they can’t get irl? Millions and millions of people post pics on social media every minute. Please share some stats or case studies on the risks. Thanks.

When my first grandchild was born 20 plus years ago, my son and DIL told every family member they were never to post any of their kids' photos anywhere. They never have.

I personally think it's unsafe and foolish in this day and age but maybe that's just me.

I am very discerning about friends on Facebook. My privacy settings are set they can only see my page.

My children are the same with their Facebook pages. They and their friends have posted photos of their children from babies to high school graduation.

We have never had a problem. Just make sure your settings are set correctly.

I can't imagine anyone posting pics of family members on public pages. As long as your settings are set to "friends" there's no need to be concerned unless you are friends with people you don't know well. The bigger issue is with the kids' own accounts.

People still don't understand how Facebook works by now that's just sad. It's all about YOUR PRIVACY SETTINGS. If your privacy settings are tight then only SELECT Facebook friends can see what you post. You aren't posting to the world at large. There are also CLOSED GROUPS. An administrator controls the group and only those who have been accepted can post to the group and see posts. We post post kids pictures and family stuff all the time. It's our preferred method of sharing but our family and friends only post to closed groups.
