Amazon Return Surprise

I bought a gift for someone from Amazon only to find they already had one. I went to a UPS store that takes Amazon returns. I was told that Amazon now only gives free returns at Whole Foods which Amazon owns. Whole Foods is about twenty minutes away. I said I would bring the package to Kohl's, which they said Amazon also owns, and was told they think they are now only accepting clothes for free shipping. Return costs range from about $1 to $15. After going through the whole process again on my phone, luckily my return was only $1.

I rarely buy from Amazon and never made a return. Not that I cared about the $1, but i would have if it were $15. Amazon touts free shipping and returns. That is now untrue. Maybe it's different for Prime members. This item was sent through Amazon, not a third party seller. If I buy from them again, I will be sure to buy only items I know will be keeping.

I'm a Prime member and I've never paid a dime to return anything. I've returned to Kohls and the UPS store. The nearest Whole Food would be close to an hour one way.

Amazon does not own kohl's. I would not listen to the ups person, ans contact amazon.com yourself for information this worker doesn't know what going on with Amazon

I just did an Amazon return. It was a clothing item that was damaged. I chose Staples from their list. Nothing was said about not getting a full refund depending on the site I chose. I checked today and they had already done a pre-return credit which would then go on my CC as soon as they received the item. Full credit. Plus Staples gave me a 10% off coupon for their store.

I know Kohls did that when they first started doing Amazon returns, but last time I did a return there I didn't get a coupon, so I figure Staples will only be doing it short term. I don't do many returns, mostly defective items.

If you have a Staples Store, you can return Amazon, QVC & other stuff in their store. Also our store accepts USPS returns as well as UPS!!!

Not sure what your issue is, but I returned an Amazon package at the ups store today and had no trouble. It was something I just didn't like, not clothing, and I paid nothing for the return.

Amazon began to charge return fees under certain circumstances earlier this year. Whether or not you have a prime membership doesn't determine if you'll be charged a return fee. Below is a partial explanation:

Last year I chose Khols and always got a coupon. I now chose UPS because it's closer and never paid anything.

I'm a prime member and just returned a clothing item a couple of days ago to Kohls and no charge plus I was given a 20% off coupon for Kohls. I have never been charged for any returns.

Amazon recently changed it's return policies in an attempt to reduce the number of returns. I don't return much so I haven't given it much thought.

I've been a Prime Member for 10+ years and make most of my online purchases from them. I can count on 1 hand how many times I've needed to return a product and have never been charged.

But then I'm a responsible shopper who doesn't make superfluous purchases. There will always be irresponsible people in this world who ruin a good thing for everyone else because of their own less than smart behavior.

I did not know this! I can see why the op got discouraged!

I don't always order from Amazon so rarely had to return anything but the time I did, I was able still to take it to a UPS store fortunately near me.It was these awful plastic candles.

I don't have a Kohls or Whole foods near me at all!

My kids live by Amazon but there are many things I do not like about it. And no, Not everyone has a convenient return. Well really for any store return.

@sugar plum glad to hear that you are a responsible shopper. Things happen. People return because something is defective and you are asked to return it. Headphones? I bought a Bible for my sister last week. Had to return it for an exchange because she would need a wheelbarrow in order to get it to the Church. See, things happen whether you are a responsible shopper or not.

I did an Amazon clothing return last week. The UPS store is closest to me. Took it there, handed it to the clerk. She scanned it printed my receipt and out the door I went. Less than a minute to return my item. Refund was posted to me a few hours later. No charge for returns ever.

I have had some issues with Amazon lately. They are obviously making changes and prioritizing Prime members more than ever which I totally get, but let's not be antagonistic towards the non-Prime people.

There is no longer a 24 hour free shipping no minimum if sold and shipped by Amazon after you place an order. Not a big deal. Rarely used it.

But this past week, things that I have ordered in the past few months are now Prime only purchases or I can overpay for them significantly unless I sign up for Prime and then I can get the actual price I paid a few weeks ago. And these were not sale or specially priced unique items.

I have a really hard time when companies start with class warfare. If I am willing to wait for a week or more to get my items or pay a buck or two more for it, I should be able to buy items which were not Prime protected less than a month ago without being price gouged.

Obviously there is an algorithm in place now, putting things you regularly buy out of reach unless you sign up for a program I do not want and isn't within budget at this time.

If Amazon wants to be Prime only, be a big billion dollar company and say so. I deleted my reorder items and have moved on until the algorithm decides that Laura doesn't play that game. Luckily, I have Walmart and Best Buy down the street.

I've never had to pay Amazon for a return when I print the UPS label and drop it off at a UPS location. Maybe you were just unlucky enough to buy something that had a return fee.
