Beware Of "Refurbished"

When shopping online for electronic devices, be very careful to read the description of the item carefully.

I have seen so many listed as "refurbished" for a drastic cut in price.

I ordered something for my grandson and failed to notice "refurbished" in the listing. Long story short, it went back after it died out a few days later.

It seems this year I am seeing it way more often than in years past.

"Refurbished" is definitely buyer beware.

I was gifted a refurbished iPhone seven years ago and it's still going strong so you never know. Guess it can be a risk so best to read descriptions carefully as you say.

As long as you know what you are getting. Those that want to chance it for a little less money, more power to you.

My experience was not good so wanted others to be careful.

@Mersha Not all refurbished items are the same. Depends on the manufacturer.

Apple has a "refurbish" website. Those items are just as good as their non-refurbish items even though they are so much cheaper. All of their "refurbish" items comes w/the exact same warranty as their non-refurbish items. Also, you can still purchase AppleCare if you want.

I thought when it said Refurbished that meant they went through it & it's good as new. Some could be selling items where they don't do that?

@Nightowlz The dud I returned was from Amazon and it was not an inexpensive item.

We were looking through Amazon for Apple Watch Series 9 and there were several marked "refurbished."

I think I will pass on those and opt for new.

Was it sold & shipped by Amazon? I try not to buy it unless it is. The few times we bought from another seller we had issues?

I have bought reconditioned Vitamix products and been very happy with them, and also Delta faucets--as long as you buy those directly from the company you should be fine.

It saved me a lot of money. Hope itworks for you!

@Mersha There is not one "series 9" on Apple's "certified" refurbished website.

I did note on Amazon the watch is sold & shipped from Amazon & not certified.

I don't blame you to buy the "series 9" new.

With all the different specs my husband wants, I think he will get one from the Apple Store.

His particular model seems to be out of stock in so many stores. I did not realize there were so many different options on it.

One bad refurbished product does not mean they're all that way. I bought a Dyson refurbished rechargeable stick vacuum. It was refurbished by the Dyson company as well. It's worked like a charm with no problems. I would never buy a refurbised product from eBay or from an Amazon vendor I've never heard of. If you buy from a reputable company and have a good warranty with the product, there shouldn't be a problem.

Apple's refurbished laptops are great and a good deal & you get Apple care with it.

Nike.com now offers refurbished shoes.

Yes, not all refurbished is the same. Start with a qualty name & reputation and you have better chance with buying a good refurbished product.

I was told that when you buy a new item, they test one in 50 or 100 but when you buy "refurbished" you know that that one has been thououghly tested before it is sold.

I have never had a problem with anything refurbished.

@MershaI have read that products refurbished by Apple and sold as such on their website are excellent. They are the only ones I'd trust in part because they're eligible for the same Apple Care protection as their new products.

Many years agothere was a website that sold merchandise at ridiculously low prices. My husband , who is not a shopper, would check it out frequently with his co-workers. He bought a refurbished Dyson vacuuum. Worked great for a very long time until I found him vacuuming the small putting green in our backyard with it.

I purchased my refurbished Vitamix from William Sonoma. It came with the same 7 year warranty and is still going strong 8 years later.

I would purchase refurbished again as long as it comes with the manufacturer's warranty.
