View Taken From New NJ Ferry Service

A brand new Ferry Service that goes directly to NYC has just opened here in NJ. The ferry service is one town over from where I live. The ferry offers another option to get to Manhattan besides using public transit buses, trains or cars. These two pictures of two local (same) bridges which, if driving to NYC you would need to cross, were taken from that ferry. Just thought you might enjoy seeing.

Very interesting. Once you get to Manhattan, how would one travel to their place of employment or whatever they're going to?

Speaking of traffic, a major artery in Los Angeles was seriously damaged in a fire and could not be used. They are working 24 seven to get it repaired since it has impacted traffic for miles and miles around. I hope this disaster encouraged people to use public transportation and they stay with it after the damages repaired.

@Another new name Sue There are a number of ferries leaving from different parts of NJ going to different parts of NYC. There is usually more than one stop in NY, so you get off at the closest one to your work. Sometimes you may need to take a cab or a bus or subway. A ferry leaves from my town and the parking lot is always full as people don't just come from that one town.

The ferry service is offering free shuttle buses to Midtown 39th St. from the ferry terminal.

@Ronettes Where I live, the traffic has increased mostly due to more housing/condos/townhouses, etc. It hasn't, yet, gotten to the point of being bumper-to-bumper with the exception of the summer months when more people travel to the shore.

@Ronettes & @ciao_bella the other side of the township I live in is nothing but shopping centers and warehouses being built. That portion of Rte. 9 is a death trap and I will avoid it like the plague. I can find everything we need on Rte. 35 or Rte.36 without having to go over that way.

@CelticCrafter Not exactly sure where on Rte 9 you're referring to, but most of Rte 9 is always busy with it being more congested during weekdays at commuter hours in the early AM hours and PM when work is over and also traffic to and from NYC.

The video of that one made me think twice about using ferrys.

I have taken the ferry from Weehawken to the city a few times.

Ther weather was so nice yesterday, I went to Waterfront Park and had a nice long walk.

@Kitty Galore No, not the Outer bridge. The Outer bridge would take you to Staten Island, New York.

The bridge in the forefront of the picture is the Edison Bridge and the other bridge further away in the picture is the Parkway -Driscoll bridge. Either of these two bridges need to be crossed to get to NYC when you cross the Raritan River.

It's nice to see ferry service again!

We recently got a "ferry stop" at the end of our street (East River) down to Wall Street.

Lots of years ago (40s/50s) my grandfather worked in Hoboken and use to take the IRT into Manhattan (we lived in Queens) ... and then a ferry to Hoboken.
