Which Chore Did You Hate ?

When you were a child growing up, was there a particular chore you hated to do?

On weekends my dad would make me pull weeds in the yard and the kids would laugh at me because I wasnt able to play like they did

The only chore I can recall is setting the table for dinner and doing the dishes afterwards.

There were four of us - so it rotated.

I grew up in an urban area ... no outside cshores.

Cleaning the bathrooms. Saturday morning was chore day, that's how we earned our allowances. My mom called scrubbing the bathrooms. Hated it. I would have liked doing yardwork but in our family, the girls did the housework. The boys did the yardwork and helped my dad with the cars he was always giving up and selling.

Cleaning period ! I hated it then and I hate it now. I do it because it's necessary, but it's just a never ending PITA.

I hate to say this but I didn't have any chores. My Mom was a stay at home mom and did everything. Occasionally I had to run to the corner store.

I had a lot to learn when I got married.

Aside from house cleaning, I hate ironing, I remember when my sister and I were home from school during the summer months, if we said we were bored, my mom would bring out the iron and board and bag of clothes that needed ironing, in those days we did not have steam irons, we had to use a sprinkler bottle filled with water.

@Winkk Similar to you, fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, I also didn't have any chores. But my mom worked full time, though. I, too, had a lot to learn.

My mom was a sahm too. My aunts too but they knew the girls would have to know how to take care of a home and family. The boys would have to know how "to be men". Those lessons came in the form of Saturday morning chores. I didn't understand that until I'd been married for a couple of years.

Ironing! My mom never asked me to do ironing but my Nana did. I enjoyed it. I like the smell of fresh clean laundry. My nana would be cooking and baking while I did the ironing. She kept an eye on me to make sure I was doing it right. She would show me the right way. She always gave me a $2 for helping and she would hug me and say "don't tell your mother". I was her namesake. She passed away when I was 13 and still miss her.

Same here. I also remember being the dishwasher many times before we got a dishwashing machine.

Raising my mom's children. The year after my dad died she "had" to get a job. She "had" to work 2nd shift. At 13 I knew she "had" to work 2nd shift so she didn't have to deal with us, her children. She told me I had be in charge of my sisters and brother. When I asked why it had to be me because my twin sisters were a year older than me, she slapped me and told me I was the only responsible one. At 13 I knew she was right.

I don't think there was any that I actually hated. I'm just like my mom was, I like a clean house. That being said the ones I don't care for are cleaning the oven and ironing......the rest I guess I am just conditoned, I don't mind them.

Mowing the big old front lawn that ran down to the highway. I was probably going to have to traipse back up hill to get gas, people would drive by and honk, and the lower yard was rough.

When I got married my dad bought a big old riding John Deere mower. He proudly showed it to me and said "That's a big yard. It's too big for a little lawn mower!" And grinned. 'Ya think Daddy?

I hated that more than scooping out the big horse stall on the barn.

Emptying and washing ashtrays! My parents were heavy smokers, as were most of the family and friends who visited, so we always seemed to have dirty ashtrays. At least I developed a hatred for cigarettes very early in life that has never left me.

It didn't bother me to get in wood, feed the hogs, burn trash, pick potato bugs off the potato vines, pull runners off strawberry plants, or trim grass with handheld trimmers until I got a blister, just don't make me empty and wash ashtrays!

Doing dishes before we had a dishwasher. Wasn't big on mowing the lawn either....
