Difference between waitlist & back order?

To me, backordered means the item has been ordered. Waitlist means the item has not yet been ordered and is often used when an item sells out during a presentation. It sold out, and they will try to order it.

Both mean you may or may not get it, but waitlist has a specific time associated with it that you know they will cancel your order if it doesn't come in. Backorder, they'll just cancel your order once they determine it's not coming or may contact you to see if you still want to wait on the chance that it will show up.

I've had pretty good luck with waitlist and kinda consider that if I don't get it, I probably didn't need it. I generally don't bother with backorder.

"A backorder means that the total number of stock provided by the vendor to us was incorrect. The item is out of stock and we will try to reorder. If we are unable to do so within two to three weeks, your order will be cancelled and you will be notified by letter.

Waitlist is offered when QVC has a reasonable expectation (not a guarantee) that the item will return to stock within 45 days. For a waitlist order, you may receive a return or an item held by a check.

@cactusjack - @Icegoddess explained it well. What I would add is backorder is because the vendor can't presently supply the quantity but expects to in the future. Waitlist is when the item WAS available, and probably sold out. You got in right after everyone else. They are expecting some returns or items put back in stock for another reason, so there is a good chance your order will be fulfilled.

I've had experience with both. Sometimes I get my order; sometimes I don't. Sometimes I'm really disappointed; sometimes it is what it is!

It doesn't matter at all to me. In 35 years, I have never received an item that was waitlisted or back ordered.

supposedly back ordered will be filled, waitlist is usually someone will cancel , or order doesn't go through. Backorder in the day was almost always filled, nit so much anymore at least in my case .
