Giant Lizards Invading South Carolina?

This story was in my notifications today.

The Tegu lizards are not native to US and they are dangerous, the article said.

WOW this is news to me. I wouldn't want to "accidentally" stumble onto one in my yard!

I have a leather watch strap that says "Tegu" so the must be good for something. I had to look it up.

I didn't read where they are dangerous but the opposite-

Argentine tegus are known to be intelligent lizards, and, when kept in captivity, they can form a close bond with their owners. The Tegu reportedly requires human love and affection, and sometimes prefers to spend quality time with its owners instead of eating.Jun 30, 2017

However if threatened they may bite and whip their tails and also prey on other animals nests- but what animal or reptile or bird doesn't? Hawks, eagles, fox, bear etc.

I am looking forward to going home. Though he’s an American, my husband is looking forward to going too. We have two grandchildren that live and work there and the kids/grandkids vacation there every year, so, I’ll be making gnocchi till the day I die. lol

At a strange time in both our lives, my sister took me to a pub that had the most wonderful gnocci. I always remember it as the most soothing thing, just what we needed. I've loved it ever since.

Non native species are a threat to our native wildlife. It's the problem Florida and the Everglades are dealing with (pythons, etc). I certainly don't want these large lizards on my property.
