Woman goes 5 years without shampoo

I would feel so gross.

“My hair is softer, less greasy and a prettier color since I stopped using shampoo,” she says.

At first, she tried organic and natural shampoos but found they were expensive and contained a list of unfamiliar ingredients. She opted for baking soda and apple cider vinegar. Unsatisfied with the results, she decided to skip the lather altogether and rinse with water twice a week (and occasionally comb). She plans to continue not using shampoo indefinitely.

I'm glad she gave up the apple cider vinegar. She would look like a pickle.

I hope she doesn't get the bright idea to go au natural with regards to deodorant. That would not be pleasant for her friends/family/co-workers.

I guess she doesn't go to a hair stylist either, unless she insists that they just rinse her hair.

Very odd decision, but whatever floats her boat.

If I might join in, many years ago my mammogram patient was a true naturalist- she lifted her arms and I swear, the hair was dangling- I kid you not.. when I asked was she wearing deodorant (it was obvious from the smell she didn't, well you get my drift) she replied she used a crystal rock.. and she was still breast feeding her almost 7 yr old child, of which I had to get my supervisor involved to explain to the lady I was not allowed to leave the door open while her child sat outside the door on the floor looking in. It was very interesting so I can't imagine this woman the thread is about not using a shampoo on her hair, any of her hair.. sorry it had be said.. I mean her scalp alone would have that "odor"? Musty?

I guess you really earned your pay that day. If she was breast feeding, could she still get squashed for the mammogram? Oh no, I just got a mental picture of that.

with all the chemicals we have in our water......like chlorine......and since she "rinses" her hair twice a week, it's doubtful it has a musty smell or that she is avoiding putting chemicals on her body, just from the water alone..................................raven

I would think one would need something to break down the natural oils we have in our skin and that water wouldn't be enough.

We always had the mom nurse or express prior to compression or there would be projectile milk all over.. She was no doubt a trip, my supervisor was wonderful..

I don't know, bbr, seems that wouldn't be enough to really cleanse the scalp esp. if it were excessively oily...

I'm sorry, but your hair is going to smell funky if you never wash it. Just as your body would if you only rinsed it off every couple of days.

I spray this in my hair on a regular basis... LOVE IT!

ETA- her hair in graduation pic looks AWESOME so whatever she is doing works for her...

I could see it not being so dirty if you rinsed every day, but she only does it twice a week.
