Cardinals again

At the risk of sounding like a grinch, I am so tired of hearing about cardinals. I was looking forward to watchi Valerie tonight since I have missed her recent shows, but Jane is host & of course right of the bat we have to hear about cardinals. She’s got all of the hosts talking about them now. Over done! By the way, the cardinal is an eastern bird so those of us who live in the west never see them. I guess your dead relatives only come to visit if you live in the eastern side of the country

@Lolo719, while cardinals are found primarily in the eastern half of the United States, they are also found in western areas.

@Lolo719. According to what I read online, there are Cardinals in Texas (never saw one in 35 years there), and Cardinals in Arizona but none here in New Mexico. I'd sure love it if there were.

I hate when Jane starts her Cardinal story.

I live in Texas and have cardinals in my backyard almost year-round. I put out black oil sunfower seeds for them; I love watching them but don't want to hear about them nonstop. Another reason I never listen to the live shows and just check online to see what's been on the air.

I want to throw my shoe at the TV when they start in with the cardinals. David has particularly gotten on my last nerve with it recently! I can have tons of cardinals on my feeders at any given time. I guess some of them showed up at the wrong address cause I don't even have that many dead relatives who could possibly be visiting me. 🙄

Well I didn't watch the show but we do have Cardinals here in Missouri. It's one of the first signs of Spring

I have seen cardinal in West Texas though not often. Not often means one every year or two. The male is red like the typical cardinal. I saw them more frequently when I lived in the Hill Country near San Antonio.

We have a multitude of cardinals in the northeast. They are a beautiful bird and can actually be a bit crazy at times if they see their own reflection. Had a strange experience with that many years ago but anyway.........I think it's a comfort belief and I say if it makes someone feel they are being visited by a lost loved one, so be it. I don't see the harm in it at all.

Thankfully, I haven't heard too many stories about cardinals until Tara mentioned that if you see one it's signifies someone who has passed is visiting you. That didn't mean anything to me until 4 months ago when my husband passed away. I saw my first cardinal in our yard and remembered Tara's story. You'll never know what comfort I felt. I look for that creature every day hoping to see it again.

And yes, the hosts do embellish their personal stories. Wish they'd stop.

@geezerette thanks for sharing the photo of the western version of the cardinal. What a beautiful bird.

I love cardinals and have many in my yard but I too am sick of the story Jane tells over & over again. Even though I miss my family who have gone before, I don't need to see a cardinal to think of them and certainly don't think it's a sign.

I'm in central TX and I have frequent Cardinal visitors. I have three birdbaths and they make use of them.

I love to see them, but see them so often that there's no way I could attach magical messages from beyond.

But, I'm all for people finding comfort any way they can. Sweet thoughts that loved ones are somehow still with us, has healing power.

We never fully recover from losing those we love. For some, the Cardinal is a brief sign of hope, peace and ongoing connection.

In the Spring they chatter on about butterflies bringing messages from loved ones who passed. It's always something.

@Trailrun23. What part of Texas are you in that has so many Cardinals. I lived in Houston and Midland and never saw a single one.

Well....whoever said about West coast dead relatives, has a point. Lol.

I have to say...when my mom died we had some very pointed, particularly timed "visits" that, even though I knew it probably is made up in our minds...still made me feel comforted. Silly perhaps. The day she died one came up to the glass back door...we have a picture...and just stood there peeking in the door...still as could be, just staring inside for about 3 minutes. Never before had seen that, never again.

Other very specific times too and locations.

BUT...all that said...I too can't stand the "Cardinal sell." (kind of how I feel about the "pumpkin patch" sell too.)

But...alas, that is sales...play on the emotions to purhase. That'll never change.

I guess her talking about dead relatives visiting is suppose to tug at our hearts. Jane did not make up this thought; I have heard that saying for years. Qvc grabs on anything to sell and I agree I am tired of hearing the hosts mention Jane and cardinals as if she invented the thought.
