THREE MAJOR HOLIDAYS

This is such a confusing & chaotic time for retailers .... today I saw both Halloween candy and Christmas candy in the same section.

They are having sales on plenty of things for three different holidays coming up:

Halloween

Thanksgiving

Christmas, Hanukkah etc

I see a LOT of Halloween candy on sale already.

There are other holidays, but I wonder .... do you take it one holiday at a time, or do you buy "whatever" if you need or like it?

I don't decorate for any holidays. Small apartment and I don't entertain here.

BUT - our church is doing a Halloween (All Hallows Eve ... eve of All Saints Day) party for the kids and I donated a bunch of candy

@Tinkrbl44 I''ve seen Halloween candy "on sale," but it isn't inexpensive. If you wait until the day of, there won't be anything left except the candy the kids don't want. I've already bought my bags of candy. I got 10.

I started planning my menu for Thanksgiving in early September. That includes practicing some new recipes or techniques.

I started shopping for Christmas cards in June (maybe February), and I'm not really satisfied with what I finally got. Some gifts are bought and I have decided on what most people are getting.

So, to answer you, I take them as I need to in order to save my sanity. DH would say I lost that long ago

I live in a small gated community so no trick or treaters here.

l decorate minimally, and I mean extremely minimally, for Christmas. I don't decorate for any other holidays. I actually don't care for holidays anymore. I like regular weekdays.

The opposite here concerning Halloween candy. Not much in the way of sales on candy. Usually by now, all candy has been picked over and not much left. I was at Target last night and 2 grocery stores this morning and there is still plenty of candy to be had.

I buy what I need, when I need it.

I'll be at the beach for Halloween and Thanksgiving. No trick-or-treaters as I'm in a security building. I don't like/won't eat the majority of the traditional Thanksgiving meal so I fix my own meal whenever I'm hungry with whatever is fresh from the seafood market the day before.

I'll be back up north for Christmas, but will rarely spend much time at home, so there's really no point (and less interest) in decorating.

They do it to themselves. Last year they basically did away with Black Friday and I see it's already started and it's not even Halloween... but all the deals and holiday specials aready started.

Two weeks before Halloween I couldn't find one Halloween platemat. LOL. It's ridiculious.

I no longer buy any holiday items. I have what I need. After my last move I got rid of a LOT!

I stopped giving out Halloween candy 10 years ago but if I do need something for Christmas I will buy it when I see it. I just bought a new tree skirt and waiting for Amazon to deliver it today. My Thanksgiving dinner is the same every year. It's just the two of us so it's not that difficult. I don't go all out decorating for Christmas either. A tree that's it.

@Tinkrbl44 I don't celebrate Halloween and I don't need tons of things for any holiday. The retailers just want to sell stuff so their marketing tells us we need their stuff. No one is forced to listen to them.

I kinda take one holiday at a time just naturally. When it's Halloween I focus on that and don't like to look ahead to the other seasons. I don't know why....just not in the mood or in my trying to be more "present" in life in general....I think I just like to focus and truely enjoy.

As for holiday purchases, I already have a lot of decorations so I'm not out actively looking for more but I will buy something new if I just happen to see something I really love.

And after each holiday I edit and get rid of extra stuff I no longer like as I'm packing it away.

As for Halloween candy we had to buy 3 different bags to get the combo we liked and it was expensive!

We don't get tricker treaters, just for hubby and mine's halloween party of 2. One of the only nights that we actually eat candy, so I don't know what we'll do with the leftovers. haha

They do it the same way a grocery store separates the meat from the chicken, fish, etc.

I don't think of Halloween as a holiday. I don't celebrate or buy anything except a bag of candy for the family. I do some Fall decorating with some pumpkins and flower arrangement for the dining room table. I do go all out for Christmas, my favorite time of it the year. I'm 63 so I have all the decorations and trees and cooking/serving items I'll ever need. I do buy nice presents for the people in my life. I do love shopping for those presents but I don't think about Christmas shopping until mid November. I do not rush through the holidays. Like I do not rush through my life.

I decorate with yellow, green and red chili pepper light strands. They are up all year.

Halloween is not a holiday. Hubs and I have sat in the driveway and handed out candy but we've decided not to participate anymore. This year it falls on my regular volunteer evening at the hospice house. Hubs will go somewhere.
I don't decorate except for changing the wreath on my front door for autumn, Christmas and Easter. A small outdoor nativity in December.
