Emergency alert

On Wed., Oct. 4th at 2:20 p.m. ET, FEMA and the FCC will be testing the emergency alert and emergency wireless alert systems. Wireless phones will receive one text. Will also broadcast on TV and radio.

@catter70 and @Mindy D, My understanding is that it will be the typical alert display (different from a text message) and loud noise, like the Amber Alerts and other emergency alerts we see on our phones. Thanks for the thread, @catter70.😊

Our local tv station said it would be an emergency alert like they do for weather emergencies here...the loud siren-type sound.

If it's anything like the Amber alert, that will be real loud. One thing I don't like is when Amber alerts go off around 2 or 3 am.

Last Saturday night one went off around 3 and I turned it off but a few minutes later it went off again so I turned my phone off. Anyway, Sunday morning I went to Church and when time came for offering (I use text to send my offering) so I turned the phone on and my goodness the noise that went though the building from the Amber alert from the night before. Couldn't get my phone turn off so started to go outside and finally got it turned off. Of course everyone had a good laugh so I didn't feel so bad.

The Emergency Alert System will be testing at 2:20 p.m. eastern time. Your phone will sound even if it's on 'silent' mode.

If you're a victim of domestic violence with a phone hidden for emergency purposes--TURN IT OFF!

It's minor, but it could be interesting at Broadway's matinees today.

Playbill has put out this reminder:

"FEMA and the FCC are holding a nationwide emergency alert test October 4 at 2:20 PM ET—and that means Broadway matinees could quickly become a noisy mess just moments after shows begin—a Playbill reader's nightmare!

Mine went off at 1:18pm. Sounded like the Amber alerts. I expected it to be different.

I have all of my goverment alerts turned off in my settings on my phone, along with having my phone placed on both "silent" and "do not disturb" and the test came blaring out at 2:18 PM.

Fortunately it only lasted a few seconds.

There are all sorts of strange ideas some people on TikTok and the like have been saying is the real meaning of the tests, so says my GD. One is that the siren will activate a chip that was in the Covid vaccine and - - well, they apparently do not know what will happen. GD & I laughed at this latest crazy idea and since I have been vaccinated so far nothing has happened. LOL. But I'll let ya know. If I'm able.

@chlema yes, please let us know and I will do the same. If I don't see you and you don't see me well, you should know what happened.

I always wondered how come nothing was said about the Broadcasting Networks Alert which come the TV every month.

My husband and I have both turned into Zombies. So far the dogs seem ok but the little one is looking a bit strange.
