New York Area Flooding

The photos I have seen of NYC look dangerous . I hope all of you who are in the areas affected by the torrential rain are staying safe and dry.

Thanks @On It . We're ok where I am. I hope the other city dwellers are as well. I've never seen anything like this here. It seems to be subsiding for now at least.

I live near the East River. Our block was flooded from the river to First Ave. Cops closed the street early this morning.

Steam has been coming out of the manholes since this morning.

I didn't need to go out - but if I had to - I could have gone out the other side of the building on higher ground.

@ALRATIBA my sister probably lives close to you, as she's off of 1st in the 50s. She said the same thing of course. I'm glad she lives on a higher floor and also didn't have to go out. She was displaced for months when the crane accident happened and it wasn't even her building. I was hoping her building didn't end up with a flooded laundry room or anything worse, but it seems to be ok. 🤞🏼

I'm also near First Ave. and the East River but fortunately my block in on an incline.

Just read that the rains flooded some of the pools in the Central Park Zoo and an enterprising sea lion managed a quick escape from captivity, but happily returned, I think of her own volition.

The images on The Weather Channel are absolutely unbelievable!...It is one thing after another for the City!...It breaks my heart!

My thoughts are with everyone who are dealing with this terrible situation!

I live in Nassau County and work about a 35 minute ride from my home. Today it took me almost two hours to get home. Roads were flooded, Sunrise Highway, Merrick Road, side streets you name it. I have never seen anything like it, I was grateful to make it home. I went through a lot of water ( couldn't be helped, I saw two cars stuck in water), I hope my car starts in the morning.

Yep, drove that route for years. Glad to read that you made it home. I'm happy to be retired and no longer commuting, but DS is staying in Manhatten tonight (there is flooding in the building where he is working so extra staff is needed).

@Tori3569 thank you, the ride home was really scary. I was watching my local news on ABC and saw cars deep in water up to the windows. I don't think the weathermen thought this storm was going to be this bad. I wanted to add, why can't more people have some kindness, grace behind the wheel? We share the road, it was flooded, it was a blinding rain, bumper to bumper traffic, moving at a snail's pace. Yet people are so impatient, honking their horns, not letting you get in front of them, this was a once in a lifetime storm, just do the right thing.

So this morning I went grocery shopping ( I go on Fridays, needless to say I didn't go yesterday). Thankfully my car started and seems to be okay.

I'm from Westchester County.

My family home is up the street to one of the entrances to the Bronx River Parkway. Everyone in those areas knows how quickly the BRP floods and becomes quite dangerous.

Looking at the photos on the Weather Channel and local news channels was frightening.

Glad everyone is safe and hope the worse is over.

Now where's the sun??
