PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - We have officially broken the record for 110+ degree days in Phoenix. In 2023, we have now had 54 days with temperatures at or above 110. The previous record was 53 days back in 2020; we only get 21 days a year on average.

OMG!!! That sounds really awful!

I just came back from the beach for a few days. I went to Cape May, NJ which is lovely but the weather was oppressive. It was only in the low to mid 80s but the humidity was off the charts!! The kind of humidity that as soon as you step outdoors you are drenched in sweat. It just hits you in the face and you feel moist all over...yuck!

We couldn't wait to get into AC whenever we ventured outdoors to do a bit of exploring & shopping. Fortunately we had a nice afternoon on the beach.

@Desertdi I live in Phoenix & we were in Vegas this past week & I couldn't believe how much cooler a city 4-1/2 hours away was! The patios were filled at the restraunts in the area we were staying. It got hotter as week went on but not as bad as Phoenix.

@Desertdi when we returned, it was like oh no not this oppressive heat again! Were hoping for better days as a weather guy on 5 said he thought 110s were over. When will it end?

@Desertdi. No, I didn't see that but our meteorologists talk about t

he heat in Phoenix all the time. Our little Roswell didn't do too shabbily either with something like 60+ days of 100° + temps, many around 110°. This past week they broke the all-time high temp for September with 106°.

I hate to be disloyal but that place is a hellhole. It's no wonder the aliens pulled up stakes and left.

@Kachina624 My a/c thermostat broke down last week when it was 116. It was 99 inside the house for 20 hours til the tech got here. I was afraid to sleep....figured I wouldn't wake up. I admit, I was feeling a little "goofy".......

@Desertdi. Di! You should've gone to a motel and stayed there until the tech was on his way. Older people just can't take the heat. It must've been torture.

I had a bearing go out in my cooler last month but it never quit cooling. Just sounded like an elephant on a tredmill.

@Kachina624 I guess it was "Desperaton Day". I used the same company that installed it only a couple years ago. THEY told me I better be there when the tech shows up, or there wasn't a second chance.

I WAS on the "Senior Citizen EMERGENCY LIST" (law around here) and they did call with a couple updates.

I asked if there was a "manual way" to turn the pump on by itself, and there isn't. The thermostat was about a $50 item.....and I paid over $500 for the emergency service! BAD DAY all around!!!! di

Apparently, it did happen. Late June, early July.

Apparently, nobody cares.

Things tend to happen in this state but we don't find out about them until after they've occurred. Balloon Fiesta seems to be the exception.
