Do you see these over your area? It's quite common for them to appear over Albuquerque and there are always people who didn't get the word and are alarmed, thinking an alien invasion is eminent. You can Google SpaceXStarlink and find trackers for a backyard evening of satellite watching. Kids love it. Cheap entertainment.

So, if you look up at night and see this, don't be alarmed. It is a bit disconcerting the first time you see them.

@SilleeMee. I think these are used for a lot more that providing Internet. Sometimes they have chains of up to 90 of them.

Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by American aerospace company SpaceX,[3] providing coverage to over 60 countries. It also aims for global mobile phone service after 2023.[4] SpaceX started launching Starlink satellites in 2019. As of August 2023, Starlink consists of over 5,000 mass-produced small satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO),[5] which communicate with designated ground transceivers. In total, nearly 12,000 satellites are planned to be deployed, with a possible later extension to 42,000. SpaceX announced reaching more than 1 million subscribers in December 2022[6] and 1.5 million subscribers in May 2023.[7

Saw them for the first time (in Illinois) a few nights ago. Pretty cool but was gone in a few seconds. We were bit taken aback but then remembered hearing about on the news.

we see these pretty frequently on the east coast......maryland area.

anytime they appear people freak out and post photos on the nextdoor app wondering what they are.

i dont think that astronomers are thrilled with them.

"grand innovation" or "astronomical menace?"

@Kachina624 , there are Starlink customers in rural Nova Scotia. High speed internet is hard to come by in some of the more rural communities who have no choice like we do in urban areas. This has become a significant issue with the increased 'work from home' environment since Covid. Canada and more rural Provincial locations have seen significant growth in population since Covid. People are leaving the larger cities in fairly large numbers.

What is even more amazing is seeing the Space Station fly over...AWESOME! If you go to Nasa's website click on spot the station to see when or if it flys over your city.

Satellites not only for internet but are also used in defense functions such as drones. Recent controversy involved Musk not allowing Ukraine needed access for drone function.

What ? Where and when - I look at the sky every night and have never seen them. I live in a high rise so there is no 'escaping' the view.

There are thousands of satellites out there. More than just a a few Starlinks.
