Would You Miss Your Walmart?

If it suddenly became unavailable, would you and your family miss it?

Over the week-end a fire ripped through the Walmart Super Center in Clovis, NM, causing the roof to collapse. It was early in the morning with about 50 employees working inside who all managed to escape safely.

Clovis is out in the middle of nowhere near the Texas/NM State Line. Apparently this loss is a real community disaster as there aren't many alternative shopping venues. Getting prescriptions is going to be a problem so Walmart is setting up a mobile pharmacy. People are worried about doing their seasonal shopping as the holidays approach. It could take a long time to replace the store.

This is a ranching community without resources. There is an USAF Base in the area that is self contained so they'll be okay.

I'd definitely miss my store as its my grocery source. Disparaging this store is a national pasttime but what if it and its jobs disappeared?

Yes!! I would miss my WM curbside pickup service for sure.

Not a WM but just yesterday a local King Soopers grocery store, located in a very busy part of the city, had to shut their doors b/c remodeling contractors found asbestos in the building. One King Soopers employee has already filed a lawsuit. King Soopers customers have been forced to shop elsewhere and there's outrage.

This never happens here. It's shocking.

Oh wow! We know Clovis well. It is very close to Portales where our eldest went to University. There is a Walmart in Portales. It will be an inconvenience for Clovis folks, but doable.

They "did something" to my Neighborhood Walmart....some kind of "renovation"...and I've seen better truck stops on the Interstate...

No, I do my best not to go to Walmart. Also, the last order I placed with them got canceled. Hope that's not a trend.

I have been a Walmart/Sam’s Club girl for a long, long time. I would miss Walmart if they went away.

I have lived in many different states and they are all so different. My ex used to work at the home office in Bentonville and I always said if every Walmart and Sams’s Club were maintained as well as the ones in Northwest Arkansas they would have a very different reputation.

Walmart is the only source we have in our Mountain village in Southern New Mexico for home goods, bedding, towels, office supplies, dishes, cutlery, and just about anything needed for a household. This Walmart serves a huge geographic area. It is the only grocery store offering curbside service. There is no option here from any competitors. We would have to drive over an hour one direction and slightly less than an hour in the opposite direction if this store were not open.

Back in West Texas we have multiple Walmarts in our city and multiple competitors like Target. It would be a nuisance, but there are other options. A single store in a city is not the issue it is in remote, rural areas.

I am likely one of the few that has never been in a Walmart.

None were around anywhere I lived over the years.

It's sad when this type of thing happens in a small community because you know jobs are lost for a long period of time and a local much needed store is gone.

Putting that all aside, I would not miss my local Walmart. I never go shopping there so would not care if it closed down.

No - only been in a W twice and one of those times was traveling.

Was not impress with fresh produce section at all.

I would not be directly affected since I shop elsewhere. But indirectly, the loss would affect my community's quality of living and tax base.

I used to feel that way about their produce,. But in the last several years they have really improved the quality of their produce.

No, not a Walmart shopper, Target is my store, although hubby shops at our local Walmart but he only goes to buy a few things like meats, sandwich rolls, etc., then goes to the self check-out where he's in and out.

I only go to our local WM once a month to stock up on toiletries, canned, jarred and boxed items. There are other options where I could shop for those but they would be more expensive. So, personally, I wouldn't miss my Wal-Mart. However, there are several other close by I could go to.

For this town, I'm sure it would be devastating. I'm glad to hear that WM did set up a temp pharmacy.

I have a Walmart very close by and I do go there often. I have many other places to shop, so I would miss it mainly for its convenience.

We do have three Walmart Super Stores and three of the smaller Walmart Grocery Stores in my city, so if one suffered damage I could hit another.

Many years ago my preferred location of the smaller grocery store did not have power one morning due to the storms the night before. The employees were sitting at the open doors trying to get some outside Texas air conditioning while telling early morning shoppers the store was closed.

I felt strange not making my Friday morning 7:00 a.m. Walmart run before coming into the office. Yes I would miss it.

Yes, I only live a couple blocks away and is very conveinent to walk there. they carry everything and their prices can't be beat. They have lounge wear of cotton modal except a fraction of the price compared to everyone else. One time my niece and I got into a heated argument over Walmart vs Target !!

I don't shop Walmart as much as I used to. When I lived in California, Walmart and Target was my go to for a lot of grocery shopping. I live in Georgia now and find I do better at Kroger and Publix when shopping the sales and BOGO. I shop Publix most frequently. I shop Target for many things, not food. For me, Target sells more of what I'm looking for and Walmart doesn't carry.
