MY SISTER'S HUSBAND PASSED AWAY ON JULY 30th OF THIS YEAR. HER HUSBAND WAS THE PRIMARY ON THEIR COSTCO CARD. SINCE COSTCO IS N O LONGER ALLOWING MORE THAN ONE MEMBER PER CARD SHE APPLIED FOR A NEW CARD. WOW!!! WHAT THEY PUT HER THRU FOR A CRUMY COSTCO CARD. ASKED QUESTIONS LIKE: YEARLY INCOME, STATUS OF MORTGAGE ON HER HOME (WHICH SHE OWNS OUTRIGHT) YEARS LIVING IN WASHINGSTON STATE. SHE WAS SO UPSET WITH THIS NONSENSE SHE TOLD THE CLERK THAT COSTCO IS JUST NOT FRIENDLY TO WIDOWS. WHO DO THEY THINK STHEY ARE. ITS A LOUSY WHOLESALE CLUB. GETTING TOO BIG FOR THEIR PANTS.

They are allowing more than one on a card, never heard otherwise, my husband and both our grown daughters are on our membership and our credit card.

Are you referring to the citibank card? If its the credit card those are normal questions, if its just for the membership then that is odd.

sounds like they were trying to set her up with their charge card. When I joined the employee pushed me really hard to get one, said nope, I have BJ's and that's good enough for me.

@STYLE Why yell at us? I'm a widow, have had a Costco card since a few years after my DH died and never went through all the stuff your sister claims to have. I think she's talking about a credit card.

Calm down. Getting a Costco card is super easy.

She must have been applying for a Costco credit card. Usually if you already have a major credit card in your name the approval is automatic.

I can't imagine just the membership card application would require this information.

@STYLE Sounds like they were trying to get her the credit card. Having recently lost my father and helping my mom now, I know that it's really hard when your spouse passes away to do everyday things and working with various companies as a new widow, but I don't think Costco is unfriendly to widows.

She may be sensitive having to deal with these types of things on her own now (believe me, I get it, working with my own mom), it's probably more of a security issue with Costco and a possible attempt for the clerk who many have miss-understand and was working on securing her a credit card. Especially with so much theft, and abuse of their store policies, they have to ask a lot of questions.

My mom gets frustrated with everyday issues, like an increase in her auto policy. I just take charge and deal with it and call those companies and take care of these kinds of things for her now.

I encourage anyone with a spouse to get BOTH names on all the utilities, that way if one passes, the other can take care of the account without having to explain that their spouse has died, which can be painfull to even say, or having to get a death certificate to the billing department to get the account updated.

You are only allowed two people on the membership. I’m not sure how you, your husband and two daughters are doing it.

I have been given the real hard sell for their credit card...that is prob what they were asking those questions about. DH has the membership in his name and I am the one he added to the account. We each have our own picture ID membership card. At the time we got the membership, you could only add one other person, but things may have changed. Back then, you had to show proof of employment but I think that's all. The last thing I would ever want is a Costco credit card. I could do a lot of damage in just one trip with it.

We went in many years ago and had a nice clerk tell us no problem and she added them. Havent had an issue with it since. We don't the any percentage back on their purchases though.

@STYLE I'm sorry about the stress your sister is going through. It's hard to suffer such a grievous loss as the death of a spouse.

Whether it was a cc or a store card, your sister is going through a really difficult time. I'm sending prayers for her.

@STYLE I sympathize with your sister. The transition from being part of a functioning couple and coping with all the differences and decisions when the wound of grief hasn't healed, if it ever does, can leave the single spouse with a full time job. I

@STYLE I agree that your sister must be applying for the credit card and not the membership. She and her husband were probably on the membership card. The questions you posted are normal credit card questions.

It sounds like they misunderstood her, they thought she wanted to apply for c credit card. Why didn't she asked them why they were asking those questions for a membership card? That would have cleared up any confusion.

Is this a Costco credit card or a Costco membership card? I can understand them making you jump through hoops for the former but not the latter. My father died late last year, and so many things were in my father's name only or in my parents' names jointly; it was a lot of work to get things changed over to just my mother. It did surprise me a little they couldn't be more accommodating, but that's life today.
