I read an account of a gentleman who saved a herd of elephants years ago. When he died that group walked twelve hours and stood vigil around his home for two days.

How did they know he had passed? No one told them, but they came. There are studies underway to determine if on some level animals are in tune with nature's events.

Two weeks ago our wildlife started displaying odd behavior. Most of the hummingbirds left a month early. A strange herd of horses moved into our neighbor for a couple of days. The elk with babies have moved up the mountain. The single ladies are still here.

Maybe it is the lack of rain, the above normal temperature, or an early winter. The young lady at Starbucks asked us if we noticed odd behavior. She mentioned the early departure of the hummingbirds. I guess we still see if it sorts itself out.

Has anyone in other parts of the country noticed a change in animal behavior?

🤔 At times I do think that animals know as much as we do about what goes on. Maybe even more. The difference is that they don't speak. Except in their own special language, of course.

The way they look at you sometimes, you just know that there is a busy and bright mind at work ........

Sorry I haven't posted on all those neat photos you had! I thought those were simply amazing!

I really haven't noticed anything too much in my se neck of the woods. I just know (firsthand) that animals are in tune with their people.

They must have really moved from the Canada fires. Is that what you experieced, do you think?

For some reason I was unable to draw in hummingbirds this year. My sister, who lives a state away, had many hums like she always does.

Animals are documented to have more sensitive senses than humans, and do react to weather indications that we do not sense even with modern technology. They also can pick up on earthquakes from lesser earth action that we sense, and seem to know in advance.

Do they know someone died and walk 12 hours? No. I don't believe it for a second. They might follow someone or a trail or a vehicle, but do they know someone dies? No.

There are many things happening this year that are alerting the animals that something is amiss. Here is our town we had a natural gas leak that went on for a few weeks, it started in November. It resulted in over a billion cubic feet of gas escaping, it was one of the largest gas leaks in the world, of course that had an impact on nature. I also think the elephants knew. I believe that we connect on a different level with one another and other species. Some of us 'feel' the emotions of others, who is to say that animals do not do the same? Elephants have deep connections and attachments, I think they felt the change in thier universe and made the trip to say goodbye.

Animals are intuitive regarding nature and by nature. Domesticated probably not as much but even they can be very surprising.. I have no proof of anything scientific, just my own interest, love of animals, and observation through the years. Yesterday and today I've been watching about 5 Robins walk around our front lawn pulling worms and hopping around. They only come here, to no one else's lawn that I can see. Better worms? Easier to catch? It's been interesting to watch and speculate.....

Interesting that you bring this up @On It . Saturday morning I mentioned to my husband that our woods were very silent in the morning. That is really unusual as we live back in the woods and hear a lot of bird activity in the mornings. No crow sounds, no woodpeckers or song birds were vocalizing. Very strange through this morning. Also noticed the hummers weren't active and only saw a couple all weekend. Tonight we have a severe thunderstorm with lots of lightning and noise. Just started pouring rain.
