Fires on Maui

I'm feeling great sadness this morning because of the burning of sites on Maui including historic Lahaina. This has great sentimental importance because that's where we spent our honeymoon. Many of the affected people had to run into the ocean to escape the flames. There are other fires burning across the island. Officials have put in a request for the National Guard and are awaiting that assistance. They have not been able to control the flames yet and need much more help.

What a sad situation. I also visited Maui about 25 years ago with my family. So beautiful there!

We didn’t honey moon there but spent a month there a couple of years ago & a beautiful town with nice people. Very sad

So sad!!!! My husband and i have been there several times as well and is our favorite place to go.....It is so beautiful.....I hope they can get some relief real soon!!!!!

OMG!! Haven't heard anything about this on the news. We have been to Hawaii several times and Maui is our favorite island. Have plans to take the 7 day NCL cruise in March that stays overnight in Maui. Hope things are OK by then.

My husband and I visited there...such a beautiful place. We loved all of the islands we visited. So very sad. Hopefully they get it under control very soon. So devastating.

So very heartbreaking. Lahaina is a national treasure. I pray that the people and animals escape harm.

We visited Lahaina about 10 years ago, love the quaint and historical town, thoughts and prayers for everyone's safety.

The situation seems dire. There is no phone communication and 911 is down. The winds are carrying embers and spreading the fires. Resorts are trying to evacuate guests, but their efforts are compromised by the lack of communication.

The Maui hospital needs to send some burn victims to other hospitals. The hospital is receiving victims and getting crowded. Requests have been made for National Guard assistance.

The airport is currently sheltering 1800 travelers.

There are wildfires on the big island too.

I am so upset to see the pictures of Maui's fire. I recognize the businesses on front street that have been affected.

We always stay in Lahaina town....my favorite place in all of Hawaii.

.....Praying for the people, many who have had to run into the water and be rescued by boats.

OMGosh.......Sending prayers and good wishes to a beautiful place and beautiful people.

Many, many, many years ago, for several years, we used to stay, for approx. a month at a time, at the Maui Eldorado.......On a slight slope, on a golf course. Condo-type of rooms, with kitchenettes, etc.

I believe it's called another name.

Yes, we are safe. Thank you so much for asking. We live on O‘ahu. However, I do have a co-worker who lives in Lahaina on Maui. She was offline most of yesterday because she lost electricity & cell service and did not log in this morning. We've put a call out to her emergency contact but no response. I don't know how many employees we have in the severely damaged area. So far there are 6 confirmed fatalities. Needless to say I am quite distracted from work today.

@Mindy D I had heard on the radio today about the fires there. It is a terrible situation as the newscater said the hospital was full of burn victims.
