Do you think vendors coming into the studio is a thing of the past? Yes some do come in but a lot have been selling their wares from the comfort of their own home ( Josie Maran and Laura Geller come to mind). I get why the vendors don't want to come in. It's easier from their home than flying across the country. I guess QVC must like it, someone paid for traveling and hotels, I would think it was QVC. Having the vendors in studio just seemed to be more personal if that makes sense. I have a feeling this is the norm.

@Jordan2 Good ? that I sometimes wonder about also. But, I think the vendors all have specific contracts w/QVC which spells out exactly what each is required to do. And, it's my understanding that travel/hotel expenses are all covered by the vendor.

Perhaps it's just the few shows, host, or vendors I see, but I think the host talk over the vendors less when they're not in the studio.

Someone went on a real bender on this subject, but his/her posts were poofed.

There is no way to repeat it all because the posts were long, but the gist of it was they were outraged that the skype thing seemed to becoming the norm.

This was very predictable. Anytime someone makes your life easier, it would almost be impossible to reign it back in.

From what I remember about that thread, some were okay with it, some were not...imagine that!

Edited to say if the vendor has a TSV, I think they should come in instead of flying a host 3,000 miles across the country.

Its 2023. No vendor wants to pay for travel, food, etc. when their is no need for it.

Out of studio guests are all over television, - news, daytime shows.

A vendors presence in or out of studio has never influenced what I purchase.

A host alone is fine with me.

I think it's going to continue to be a mix of in studio and remote.

Remote is more convenient for many vendors especially when they just have an item or two to sell in a show or day. And QVC can ask them to appear remotely with a lot less lead time so it's more flexible for them.

It also depends on what the product is and whether or not the vendor has another representative for their products or if there is only one person.

I do think most vendors will continue to come to the studio when they have TSVs, which involve several appearances in a 24 hours period.

It hardly seems practical for a vendor to fly back and forth across the country for a 5 minute appearance. The expense is on the vendor. Remote broadcasting has come a long way. I don't mind it a bit.

I don't watch any shopping channel because I want to see the vendors. As long as I can see the merchandise, I'm ok. I think most designers and vendors do spend some time in the studio. They just don't traipse into the studio all the time because it's not necessary.

Had it not been for COVID I think vendors would still be coming into the studio.

@Jordan2 Geller was in-studio in person week before last. I bought from her but mostly I remember Jane being all over her.

In the Shoe Shopping with Jane show that just aired (with Amy filling in) the reps from Ryka, Vionic, Clarks and Vince Camuto were all in studio!

Kim Gravel, who had a two hour show this afternoon and on for another two hours now is broadcasting from home.

I'm not sure if there is any clear and consistent rule? I don't mind either...

Just like with my job, there are new ways to be efficient while getting the job done. We've probably saved about $50,000 just this year by my boss having weekly Zoom calls instead of biweekly meetings at a hotel conference room. We all office from home (field mgt in the restaurant industry) and this is so much better than what we use to do.

@DSD2. If they have a TSV,

They all appear in the studio. Many of the vendors, who aren't company owners, live in the Philly area. Probably hired to save travel expense.

A "vendor" can be someone selling pretzels on a street corner. I don't put much stock in their jabber...

Nowadays, some of these "vendors " on QVC are nothing more than influencers. Go back to having one host on a show. Too much off topic chat with multiple hosts.

Large businesses have conducted meetings & business via teleconferences for years. Zoom & Skype are utilized in almost every business since the pandemic. It’s cost saving & entirely fine for vendors to remain at home. Why should they come to PA for a five minute presentation? Flights are a mess, hotels, food etc. Vendors who live in Pa might opt for in studio appearances but it should be optional. The TSV might warrant in person visits but not really necessary.
