I can't believe it, but today I got an engraved, formal wedding invitation to a friend's daughter's wedding who is getting married for the 5th time! It sounds like it is going to be quite the event. It is black tie and will be in early October at a resort. I think the guy she is marrying is wealthy, so hopefully my friend isn't paying for any of this. Her daughter is about 40 now, so I amazed this is still going on. Would you go? DH has already said if he has to wear his tux, he is out, so I would probably have to go alone. I am trying to talk myself into going, and I feel bad for my friend if no one she knows attends. She is divorced so don't know if her ex will be part of this or not.

If it’s a good friend, yes.

I wouldn’t base my decision on the fact that it’s the 5th wedding, which I assume is what you are asking.

OMG! The wedding sounds like it's going to be beautiful, go and have a great time!

BTW, did you attend the first four weddings? This might be the one.

Maybe it's the grooms 1st marriage. Either way, I would go in a heartbeat no matter how many times the person has been married.

I personally would not go. Sounds like this woman either picks the wrong husbands or is a real loser. But she obviously likes weddings! LOL.Maybe she collects alimony funds. You can use the excuse you are going to be out of town during that date. Or just unavailable if your friend asks. Are you close friends with the daughter? Seems strange she is inviting her mothers friends at her age and number of marriages.

However, if you decide to go, enjoy and give her a GOOD LUCK card and the groom a condolence card. LOL

I would definitely go to the wedding. It sounds like it will be a fun party. You never know the fifth one might be the charm. I am wondering if they will use the til death do us part in the wedding vows.😍

@Trailrun23 Were you invited to any of the previous weddings? Did you buy gifts for any of them?

If you must travel any distance to get to the wedding location I would pass and send a card.

If close by, it would be nice to go if you are willing and able to support your friend.

I would find it fascinating to see what a 5th wedding and celebration might look like.

I would go. There's no shame in going to a wedding alone. You may meet some new people that share similar interests.

I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun while supporting your friend at the same time. It's a win, win! 🙂

It sounds like you don't want to go and you have no good wishes for the couple. Don't go. The brides mother doesn't need you. You won't be doing her any favors by going when so obviously don't want to go. I have no problem at all in attending 2nd and 3rd weddings. I love weddings. However, I do adjust the $$ value of the present if I've already given pricey gifts for previous weddings.

I see a lot of weddings mentioned here the parents get to or want to invite their friends.

I never heard of this until my youngest daughter was getting married and her mil wanted to invite a lot of people that she wanted with her at the wedding, that my daughter didn't even know.

Is this a more recent decade thing? An always thing? I'd never heard of this before. I mean whos wedding is it? Why do parents need friends or support at a wedding that isn't theirs? I don't get it.

I think that by the time they get to the fifth wedding - or even the third or fourth - they start inviting different people, people who didn't attend the earlier events.

Personally, I'd make every one a small event after the first.

Go and your husband should accompany you. He does not have to wear a tux. I have been to many black tie weddings and many gentlemen just wore dark suits.

it is possible the groom was never married and wants the wedding. Around here we invite the friends of the parents of the bride and groom. I have been to many weddings where I did not know the bride or groom. Weddings are usually fun parties.
