Will we be greatly affected or not. Some preditct the inter-net will fail as well as other eletrical devices. What do you think?

We went through all that when the year changed from 1999 to 2000. Really nothing was affected. I expect that if the technology we have today allows us to send folks to space, the solar storm will not do much, if anything.

"What do I think"? Never heard the phrase, nor heard any prediction. If this is like some of the other professed certain woes in the future?

I have lived through 3 world ending events, one was just a few days ago. Will throw this in the same category, if and when I even hear about it. So far your thread is it.

A solar storm could have catastrophic consequences, particularly with power grids, sources of communication and more. Is it possible? Yes, and probably inevitable, at some point.

Not sure if there is any way to shield ourselves from such an event. So let's hope it doesn't happen anytime soon, and, if it does, that it will fall short of the predicted chaos that many feel could occur.

We have enough to worry about, these days, without focusing on future maybe's. But, I always try to have surplus staple supplies available, just in case things go crazy. Since these type of events are out of our control, it's the best we can do.

I never worry over any perceived major catastrophic event as I have absolutely NO control over any of it.

Scientists are saying it's possible, but not very likely. If the internet went down millions of people wouldn't be paying their bills on time if all they relied on was the internet. Those wihout checks would be out of luck.

I have stopped watching any cable news and rarely see local news unless we have severe weather. There is so much disinformation flooding our minds. I can't control Mother Nature or Father Time. I just enjoy the day I have, and let tomorrow bring what it brings.

Some of you are too young to remember what a magnet would do to the older computers!

Why do you think the whold world is working on a solution? Possible? Absolutely!

Even the smaller ones that occur affect what goes through the atmosphere! Even 5G affects air traffic controls.

We are in Solar Cycle 25. There has been activity in this cycle since (2019) and activity is expected to continue to 2030.

The information is available for all to read and learn.

(Of course statements made that we will all be dead by then are misleading but I digress.)🙄

For accurate scientific facts on this, I'd look at the government NOAA website National Environmental Satellite, Data, & Information Service and the NASA website. (I wouldn't look to a .com or a for-profit TV or stream program)

From the NASA website:

Like a tornado siren for life-threatening storms in America’s heartland, a new computer model that combines artificial intelligence (AI) and NASA satellite data could sound the alarm for dangerous space weather.

The model uses AI to analyze spacecraft measurements of the solar wind (an unrelenting stream of material from the Sun) and predict where an impending solar storm will strike, anywhere on Earth, with 30 minutes of advance warning. This could provide just enough time to prepare for these storms and prevent severe impacts on power grids and other critical infrastructure.

The computer code in the DAGGER model is open source, and according to Upendran, it could be adopted, with help, by power grid operators, satellite controllers, telecommunications companies, and others to apply the predictions for their specific needs. Such warnings could give them time to take action to protect their assets and infrastructure from an impending solar storm, such as temporarily taking sensitive systems offline or moving satellites to different orbits to minimize damage.
