Is anything collective now?

I see a lot of Llardo ,Hummels,etc at Garage Sales. Should I buy any?

My son says his Lego sets are now selling for a lot of money. He's not selling, but it's interesting to see the prices.

I collect antique toy sewing machines and they are not worth much anymore. I don't really care because I didn't buy them as an investment. I think everyone should collect something. It's fun and shows your personality.

I have a few "collectibles" in my home I'm extremely anxious to get rid of but the stuff isn't mine. These collections belonged to my husband's family, none of which I want or need, items I would not collect. We've seemed to get stuck with the stuff when his parents died, his brother wanted none of the stuff, had no intention of taking any of it. My husband being the pack rat that he grew into couldn't say no so it's in our home now.

Heaven forbid, I just take it upon myself to rid our house of others' stuff that landed here. I could end up being the one thing he'd get rid of!!!!!

Buy them if you like them. Be advised, they are dust collectors.

My mother liked Hummels and had a few. A good friend collected Lladro. To me they are ugly. I never saw the point of these figurines.

Only if you want them for decorative purposes. Other than that, they have no value.

If you like them, go for it.

If you like to collect with an eye to future value, collect things that aren't billed as "collectible." They have a better chance because no one else will be collecting, or keeping them in mint condition, etc.

@Group 5 minus 1 My husband and I do a fair amount of antique shopping and from what I can see....the Lladros are holding their value pretty good. The ones I have seen are pricey.

If you can find them at garage sales, I would snap them up...just my opinion.

Nicknacks are not a good investment at this time.

Shelf stable food is the best one to invest in right now.

@Group 5 minus 1 . If you want to see current market rate value you can search on ebay for SOLD not current asking price items. That gives you a great idea as to what is selling or not.

As an antique dealer we need to keep updated on current market trends and this search helps tremendously.

Collectible values are cyclical and right now Lladro, Hummels and Belleek are low. Keep in mind there's always an exception to the rule with a select few pieces.

I collected a vast array of beaded hand bags for years. None of them have the value I purchased them for, and similarly do not even sell for much on eBay. So, collect what you want for your own pleasure, as in my case, I have no one interested for me to pass them on to.

Same with retired Dept 56 Dickens Village pieces I have from my mom that passed. Sad they go only for about $10 average, such a difference from then they were originally purchased.

What makes you happy is what it's all about.

I love my "stuff" and will admit to buying a lot over many years. I am trying to clean out but as easy as it is to purge clothing, shoes, kitchen gadgets etc., I will keep my "collectibles" (stuff) none of which was bought as an investment. As long as I have room I will continue to enjoy.

I hope when I'm gone my kids will box up my Waterford, Lenox and some other stuff and stick in their attic. What goes around seems to come around!

I did not purchase my Lladro figures to sell at some future time. I got them and the ones that were gifted to me because they give me pleasure. When we downsize they all are coming with me.
