Two Americans that died in Mexico hotel room

The latest is that it was carbon minoxide that killed these 2 last week in the luxuary resort in Mexico.

They went to the hospital thinking they had food poisoning - got IV fluids - feeling better and went back to their hotel. They went to bed and never woke up.

So tragic.

I heard that if you plan to stay at one of those resort hotels then you should bring your own carbon monoxide detectors with you to use in your hotel room there.

@SilleeMee That's a good idea. I wonder if D cell batteries are allowed in carry on or checked luggage.

My carbon monoxide detector has a built-in permanent battery which cannot be removed and has a 10-year lifespan. No need to bring batteries.

How tragic and sad..

A couple of years ago I experienced the same when my monitor started to beep one night. I called 911 and was told to leave the house immediately which i did. I had to go to the hospital to be checked and had carbon monoxide poisoning. I was given oxygen until my numbers were normal. The reason for the issue, my furnace had a crack in it!!!! I had to have that replaced of course. I am grateful I had the monitor, that saved me. I remember when the Q had them on awhile ago and I bought the set , best buy I ever purchased! I am so sorry for the what happened to the couple, it is frightening to hear.

I believe anything with a battery has to be in your carry on. They always ask you when checking bags if there are any batteries inside. @Mindy D

@San Antonio Gal Do you know if this has officially been confirmed? The last I heard it was a theory but the hotel denied it.

After reading the thread I went looking at articles about this. Apparently, two paramedics that entered the room, immediately felt sick--left the room and went to the hospital for treatment. They told ABC that they began to feel intoxication symptoms such as hypoxia and racing heartbeat. They said the scene was unsafe and decided to leave.

The property is owned by Hyatt. It's called Hyatt's Rancho Pescadero.

@Kachina624 - Not official, but the 2 paramedics that got sick was just released so it's looking like carbon minoxide.

I read yesterday that the female was found in bed and that the male was found in the shower with the water still running. He was lying in a fetal position, no facts yet of what they died from.

We may never know what truly happened. Foreign countries tend to bury these things and are not honest with autopsy findings. We used to go to many Caribbean islands to resorts and stopped going as mysterious deaths have been happening the last few years.

The one that pushed me over the edge was the Emerald Bay Sandals resort in the Bahama's were a couple died sleeping in their bed. (also most likely carbon monoxide) We had stayed at that resort a few years before the incident...... Done.

Well, Hyatt already knows they'll be paying out a LOT in settlements. I wonder if, when this is all done, they will sell the hotel.

Too bad a "luxury" hotel was so poorly managed.

I live in southern CA and have travelled to several countries, but Mexico is not one of them.

Never felt good about even a brief visit after all the stories I've heard. It's just not a safe place for Americans ... JMO, of course.

Lots of news agencies are reporting problems being ignored and it does look as if it will end up being Carbon Monoxide Poisoning.

I love to travel, and I would have considered this a safe resort to stay at since it's considered part of Hyatt set of properties.

** I was recently corrected on this, but my thoughts remain the same. Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott are known for their resorts and hotels and I expect better.
