School schedule where you live?

The graduation thread on this site made me think of this topic. I live in Georgia on the outskirts of Atlanta. Here, the last day of school was May 26th and school goes back August 1st (yes, you read that correctly, goes back August 1st). Here this has been the norm for a good many years. When I saw the thread about graduation here in the middle of June it made me think about this, since our school have been out since May 26. I would be curious to hear what school schedules other areas of the country has. Please comment and include what State you are in.

@mormel20 The schedules I've known living in Texas and NM are similar to yours. They're out about the third week of May and return the first week of August. Graduations here are just a memory now. They do have some long breaks during the year that I never had in school.

The children in my county in Maryland are still in school. The last day is Friday, June 16.

The seniors were out on June 2 and graduated June 9.

The county will resume school at the end of August.

School ends end of June. Starts beginning of September. This is in NY.

In New Jersey, the kids have half days from June 12-June 16. They all graduate on the same day this year, June 16, my birthday!! They return on September 5, the day after Labor Day!

My two grandchildren's last day of school this year was May 26th and the first day for next year will be August 17th always the same days give or take a day or so. North East Texas.

N.J.

2nd and/or 3rd week of June (seniors get out earlier-1st week in June.)-----------------------------First Wednesday AFTER Labor Day in September school starts up again.

I checked two school districts here in West Texas. Both will have the first day of school August 16, 2023. Their last day of school is May 24, 2024. The Winter Break begins December 22 thru Jan. 5. A week is taken for Thanksgiving and a week for Spring Break. Three or so single day holidays are observed as well.

Upper Midwest- our school lets out the first week of June and the kids go back right after Labor Day. I think summer school is offered for a few weeks in June.

When my kids were in school in RI they would always start after Labor day and end sometime in June. In the northeast we have to make up "snow days" from cancelled school due to snow storms and that would add days to the month of June. More recently they start the last week of August and end within the first 2 weeks of June. It always has differed depending what part of the country you are in.

Here in Southeastern Wisconsin, my grandkids were finished June 8th, and they go back September 5th.

They used to start at the end of August, but changed it. I am so glad they did!

Southern WV; 1st day of school was August 26th, seniors graduated on June 2nd, last day for students was June 6th. This is the norm for this county.

My teacher daughter now works in an adjoining county in a year round school; she likes the frequent breaks compared to a long summer break.

@LindaSal I work in a school district in Northern Delaware. Since the pandemic and the advent of virtual learning there are no more snow days. The students and teachers get one "snow day" where there is no school per year, any additional days where the school buildings need to be closed classes will take place virtually. Of course winters have been mild the past three years so this hasn't happened yet.

Schools here in my town start on August 29-30. The last day is June 12 (depending on how many snow days are used. Could be a few days longer). So. Maine
The start dates in August are relatively new. We used to start after Labor Day. The businesses were up in arms with the new start date. They rely on the kids to work in the stores and restaurants during tourist season. Starting early means the kids are no longer there during the week.

2022 through 2023 school year.

school began on august 29th.

school ended on june 13th.
