Hemming tape

I have two pairs of way too long pants that needs quite lot material hemmed,does any tapes that last through washing,and are easy to use exist?

I use hemming tape when I need to take up a couple of inches. If it's any longer ,I take the pants to the tailor. If you have a lot to hem up,it may require double taping & it may be too heavy to hold.

Most hemming tape that I've used is only temporary. Nothing will hold better than stitches.

Hemming tape does have it's benefits. If you need something hemmed and not sure if it will be the right length then hemming tape can be used, taken off w/o harm if the length is not right or leave it on and take it to a tailor to have them stitch it in place.

@goldensrbest We have a local dry cleaner who does alterations at a reasonable rate. I would look for one near you. Ours does jeans for DH and my bathing suit straps.

If the length is really too long, you would need to remove some of the fabric before you stitch or tape. You can't do a four or five inch hem.

If you don't, the hem will be too thick and heavy and the pants will not drape very well.

I have used hem tape to reinforce a hem that is falling out, but I doubt it would last very long through washes and daily wear unless the pants are made with whisper thin fabric.

Hemming the old fashioned way looks better, holds better and lasts longer.

I've had some last for years.

I always dry on LOW HEAT so it doesn't melt the "glue."

@goldensrbest If you have a sewing machine, or have a friend that has one, this is really easy.

You keep the original hem, but lose all of that extra fabric.

I sometimes use tape, but there's also a fabric glue that works very well, too. Depends on how big the job is.

The hemming tape works depending upon the type of fabric and how much you need to raise the hem.
