Most don't know about the Holocaust either. We and future generations need to remember and understand so it doesn't happen again.

My 103-yr-old father is a veteran of WWII. He remembers like it happened last week.

My late dad was there we never forgot the day, I stare at his Army photo and the American flag we were presnted at his funeral daily.

now a days, if you want your children to know anything abt histoy and respecting those that risked their lives for us - you have to teach them yourself .

@skatting44 That may be true in your schools but not in all. Ours teach history and all about the wars and much more.

Bless all the brave soldiers that fought and died in WWII to preserve democracy.

I pray we never lose it and we are also willing to fight hard to preserve it.

They truly were and will always be the Greatest Generation.

@tototwo My 96 yo dad is also a WWII and Korean vet. He remembers everything about his service like it was yesterday. Sharp as a tack and still lives alone! Love him...

Family visited Normandy and it was quite obvious that the French don't want future generations to forget either. This date is respectfully acknowledged every year.

I certainly agree with you. I just watched the whole series of "Band of Brothers" and highly recommend it to everyone, certainly our older children, parts of it may not be good for the younger ones to see yet.. It covers most of the well known events in WW2, taken from a book written by a WW2 hero, who experienced it all himself, the good and the bad.

There are many Americans buried in France and I am pleased to know that they are still honored.there.

@HiLo I recently watched "Band Of Brothers" also as I missed it the first time around.

It gave great insight into the horrors the men endured, many at such a young age. Some of it was very difficult to watch and I shed tears throughout.

I loved the older gentlemen that were soldiers speaking about their experience before the show and finding out who each one was at the end.

I would recommend following it up with "The Pacific" on HBO. It is the same type of story but is about battles in the Pacific Theater. I loved learning more about what transpired in that area as the battles are lesser known that those happening in Europe.

My father served in that area and now I have a better understanding what he endured.
