Congratulations are in order for two Hollywood leading men. Al Pacino, 83, is welcoming a new baby with 29-year-old girlfriend Noor Alfallah, while 79-year-old Robert De Niro just introduced his 7th child - his first with decades-younger partner Tiffany Chen.

I just heard Dr. Marc Siegel speak about this.

I did not know "old sperm" could cause birth defects.

A new baby is always a miracle and I wish them all much happiness!

BUT...is it really fair (to the child) of these old men to bring a child into the world, knowing that they most likely will not be around for many more years?

Whatever.

All I will say is that these children will while still very young most likely lose their fathers and these fathers will most likely miss out watching their children grow.

Age differences can work but that's an issue between the adults.

The children are a different issue.

When these older fellows marry a decades younger woman, she may have never had children and would like a shot at motherhood. They may have agreed to that before marriage.....

It's really not my concern if they have a child at that age or like Alec Balwin has 8 (?).

I have read that old sperm just like older eggs can both cause birth defects.

She will probably become the one and only Mrs. Pacino. I wouldn't be surprised if he marries her because of his advanced age. There will probably be a lengthy prenuptial agreement before they marry.

I agree @vermint

He stated he didn't want to be 'like his father' who left when he was 2. He is a part of his other children's lives.

How old will this child be when he himself 'leaves'...83 already...good for him...but.....possibly unfair to the child who may also grow up without a father just like he did.

All the money in the world is always enough to replace a parent.

Whenever I hear about an older man being the father of a baby I think about the study Israel conducted a few years back. They found that the older the father was the higher the chance of the child having autism.

Not only "older men" die or leave! Many children grow up without a father and do just fine! Not a reason to not have a child.

I disagree, a child needs a father in the home. This is undisputable. If it is truly not possible a very strong father figure needs to be in the picture.

@RetRN, I agree with you 100%, but wouldn't have when I was young.

Back then, I was divorced, and a single mom of 3 boys. Ex was completely out of the picture.

I thought, well they have me, and I love them. It'll all work out.

It wasn't until they grew older that I became profoundly aware of all they'd missed, and the emptiness and longing they'd had for a father.

Luckily, there were wonderful men who were strong role models in their lives, but nothing in the world can replace a good dad.

Nothing.
