Another free gift no longer available story

So I bought a couple of Sunday Riley items on sale from Macy's and with a $45 purchase there was a free gift ( you all know how that goes right?) One item was shipped but the other items were shipped later along with the free gift. Big surprise ! everything came today Except my free gift ! I also received a email that everything including the free gift was delivered. Hum, I double checked but no free gift in either box so I called Macy's CS dept and told the free gift was only until supplies ran out. So my question was if they ran out why does the email I received today say EVERYTHING was delivered INCLUDING the free gift ??? I called CS, they apologized. I'm thinking of returning my order. Just curious how would you handle this or have you had this happen (where your invoice email said your gift with purchase was delivered but was not) would you just let it go or return your order? I love a free gift with purchase, trying a new product to see if it's something I would use

I wouldn't return the order if it's something I wanted or use. The free gift fine print always says while supplies last.

The invoice showing it is probably just an automated thing to alert the warehouse to include it if they have it. The email is just a copy of the invoice and will say the same thing.

That's really disappointing when that happens.

I agree where I would just keep the order if the products were items that you really had wanted to try.

This has happened to me too where I was supposed to receive a bonus/free item for doing business with a company, but it didn't happen.

I think that they also ran out of the free item that I was supposed to get, but didn't put any notice in with the order to indicate that.

@Goodie2shoesUnfortunately, I believe a lot of companies use this ploy to get more orders.

I wonder how much merchandise is sold to buyers buying FOR the free item and how many never receive it. I also wonder how many returns they receive when a buyer does not receive the free items. Just curious.

So, if it was me it would depend on how much you wanted the items you bought. If you really need them and they were a good deal, you probably should just let it go. However, if you purchased just for the free items, and I think you might have said that, then I would return the merchandise. Just my opinion of course.

It’s been my experience that gifts with purchase always have a disclaimer of “while supplies last”. Since I generally consider it a bonus and not the main reason for the purchase, I would keep the order.

I already have the Sunday Riley products I bought but they are running out so with the sale and with the gift with purchase it was a good buy and a chance to try a couple of products I might be interested in. Since my initial post they are now saying they will email me a $10 gift certificate but if I decide to return the items I need to take them to a Macy's store and not return by way of the post office or UPS. The nearest Macy's is about 10 miles from me. I will use $10 in gas to get to Macy's so I think I will keep the items and use the gift certificate

You say "another" free gift no longer available. How often has this happened at Macy's?

It sounds to me like their systems are not talking to each other...communicating with how many stock remain. Sort of reminds me of QVC's waitlists when it looks like it is in stock. We buy it only to find out it is waitlisted.

If this occurs often, don't fall for their free gift offers anymore.

I'm inclined to let it go if it's one or two times. Returning your order is not going to influence Macy's execs, unless many other customers return their orders, too. The likelihood of that is slim.

If I really liked what I purchased, I'd forget about the free gift and keep the order.

I spent a good amount of money this weekend at Crate & Barrell on a bed and two nightstands. They were running their double rewards for Memorial Day. So rather than getting $950 in rewards to spend, I only received $480. So now I have to call customer service and state my case and hope they fix it. Why does everything have to be a "thing"?

I would love to know how many at qvc didn't receive their free gift for the BWB.

This while supplies last thing is a bunch of baloney.

I sent my purchase back with 2 other orders I placed this month.

@Goodie2shoes - I'd say the $10 gift certificate was a nice compromise. You can use it for whatever you want and you've already said you were running low on the items you ordered.

Technically, Macy's didn't have to do anything since it was "while supplies last".

I had a similar issue with the Philosophy website. I ordered to get a specific free gift bag. Got my order - no GWP. I contacted them and was told "Sorry, it was so popular, we ran out of stock". But they were still advertising it, when I ordered and my invoice also listed it.

They sent me a substitute GWP, when I contacted them. It wasn't what I wanted (something I already had), but it wasn't worth pursuing any further. On the flip side, when something happened while placing another order and I wasn't able to add my "free samples", they gave me a choice of getting additional ones on a future order or extra reward points on my account. I chose that and now have $10 to spend on something else.

You have to pick your battles carefully.
