Another Royal Photo

I thought this was special because it includes older members of the family.

From left to right:

Prince Edward, Duke of Kent (87, first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II), Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester (76, wife of Prince Richard), Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester (78, first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II), Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence (Princess Anne's husband), Anne, the Princess Royal, King Charles III, Queen Camilla, William, Prince of Wales, Catherine, Princess of Wales, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Alexandra, the honourable Lady Ogilvy (86, first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II and second cousin of the late Prince Philip), Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh

I enjoyed researching the older members and thought I would share this. They were all on the Balcony too! I think the two Prince Edwards definitely have a family resemblance. After Prince Philip's death the Duke of Kent was a frequent escort for Queen Elizabeth II.

Sophie is becoming one of my favorite royals. I think it's so sweet how she is supporting Princess Alexandra.

Thank you, it's a nice photo of The Firm. They tried to artfully arrange the long tails of the King's and Queen's robes but I'm not sure they succeeded. Too bad the page boys weren't there.

Wow, that's one for the ages, @beach-mom . Stunning assembly. I wasn't sure if the Duke of Kent was still alive. Thanks for having a sense of history, and posting.

Thank you for the photo. I like seeing older members of the family. I had never heard of some of these people. They sure are a spry group.

Oh Mindy you should go read up on the Duke of Kent and Princess Marina back when they married in the 30's. Marina was more royal than any of the Windsor women and considered the Diana of her time.

It is a lovely and historic photo. Heart warming too because Sophie and Edward are actually supporting the Queen's 86 year old cousin so that she could stand for the photo.

Does anyone know why Prince Michael of Kent and his wife, Princess Michael of Kent, aren't included?

ETA: I found the answer: they aren't working royals.

They are not not working royals. They never were but he was the Queen's cousin and they were very close all of their lives. They represented the Queen on many occasions. Financially they always supported themselves and were philanthropists. They retired from public life, I think before the Queen died.

@chrystaltree and @ValuSkr - I remember when I didn't know a whole lot about the entire royal family, I wondered why A WOMAN was called "Princess Michael." Her given name is Marie-Christine. Of course now I understand.

Prince Michael was yet another first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II. She had a lot, and it seems they were pretty close to her.

I didn't know they had retired from public service either. It seemed like they were always with the late Queen.

They were in the family section of the Coronation, in the 4th row.

Princess Michael has gotten herself into trouble more than once for making racially inappropriate comments, and most recently for wearing an offensive brooch to a public event.

My mother had a very pretty Blackamoorel broach she wore in the 1950s & 1960s. She bought it in S. Africa when she went to visit our relatives there (we had many who escaped to there to avoid the rising Nazi-ism in Germany). Those broaches weren't offensive. They depicted oftentimes African royalty. My mother got many compliments on her beautiful broach from women of color as well as white women. I truly wish I had it. I don't know what happened to it after all these years. It wasn't among her jewelry pieces when she died.

@Pearlee Perhaps wearing a blackamoor brooch in the 1950's and 1960's was acceptable, as many things were, but today it is outdated and racially insensitive.

Dolce and Gabanna caused all sorts of issues when they used the blackamoor figure in earrings and fabric in 2012.

In this day and age, it is viewed as inappropriate to wear.

@Mersha Yes, well I gathered that at the uproar when Princess Michael wore hers when first meeting Meghan (although it was said she wore it quite often, not just when she met MM). All the ones I've seen in person have been very beautiful pieces of jewelry, depicting black people of Africa very elegantly and regally.

@Lucky Charm - He actually is the royalty- one of Queen Elizabeth II's many cousins.

I see a resemblance to Czar Nicholas too. It makes sense. Three of Prince Michael's grandparents were first cousins to Czar Nicholas. His DNA, as well as that of the late Prince Philip, was used to help identify the remains of the Czar and his family.

Princess Michael, Marie-Christine, has a German/Czech background. She was born a Baroness. She was divorced when she married Prince Michael.

@Pearlee They are offensive to many people, especially Blacks. It is ironic that your mother purchased the brooch while in South Africa for visits with your ancestors that escaped Nazism during a period when Apartiheid laws began in 1948 and didn't end until the 1990s.
