Does anyone else have this...problem?

I have a skin condition that has removed a layer of skin--mostly on my arms--and is very unsightly. In fact, one doctor nearly fell out of his chair when he first saw it.

It isn't contaigous and has nothing to do wiith Covid. If you somehow managed to touch it, you wouldn't catch it from me (but it would hurt a lot).

Now that warm weather is approaching I need to keep my arms covered since I don't want too have to go around explaining it. Does anyone know of a business that sells lightweight, long-sleeved t-shirts? I have several from Life Is Good but I'd like a variety. Any suggestions, any

one?

I've thought abut lying. If anyone sees it and asks about it, I've been considering saying, I was in an accident and these are the scars.

Price isn't a consideration; if it saves me from stares and questions, I'll gladly pay more.

@GoneButNotForgotten I'm sorry to hear about your skin condition. I'm sure it is difficult in more ways than one.

Do you have it on your lower arms as well? I was wondering how w 3/4 sleeve top would work for you. I have gotten a few summery lightweight tops with longer sleeves from Chicos. I would also look into gauze tops since they are airy and lightweight.

There is a company that only sells gauze called, "Oh my gauze".

There is nothing cooler than linen to wear in the summer, even long sleeves.

Just because I'm 79, and my upper arms reflect that, I usually try to wear elbow length tees ( Chico's or Lands End). I also frequently buy Kimono shirts in chiffon (no buttons, wear over a tee) from Ebay. These shirts are very cool, pretty, and wear well.

@GoneButNotForgotten So sorry to hear you are going through this. I myself am dealing with a skin condition that started with a small spot on my chest last year, where I lost pigment. Now it's spread to other areas with larger spots and now on my hands. I think stress has brought it on, but I also think it's hereditary. Either way, I know how you feel. My DH keeps telling me not to worry about it that he loves me no matter what, but it is hard to deal with at times. I keep reminding myself there are worse things and I'm a lucky girl because I am blessed in so many ways. Back to your question. If price isn't an objection, I recommend James Perse tees. They are made of very fine lightweight Japanese jersey cottons and also a lot of Supima cotton. Not to be confused with Pima which isn't the same. Supima is even softer and lighter than Pima and it's the best cotton in the world. His tees are basic and come in a wide array of colors with both short and long sleeves all year, that you can easily wear year round. Aside from that, please don't be embarrassed or ashamed of your body, instead, be bold and confident in all your flaws. At my age of 55, I am proud of me and who I am and my skin or anything else doesn't define that. If someone doesn't like me for it or for any other reason, oh well their loss. Don't let other people steal your joy, life is too short for that and in the end what someone else thinks doesn't really matter. Stay true to you, be kind to others, and the true good people in your life will love you warts and all. God bless.

I have a different condition on my lower arms that has caused me to continue to wear long sleeves thus far, whenever I have to be out and about. My condition is red spots under the skin. Looks like blood. It only appears on my lower arms, and mainly on my left arm. They vary in size. The bizarre thing is that some of the older spots have faded.

I'll certainly be looking into some of the suggestions for light-weight long-sleeved summer tops.

Take a look at Logo mesh tops. The material is very cool to the touch, not hot at all and don't snag. Depending on your comfort zone you may want to wear a lightweight tank underneath. I don't find the one I have see through.

I would wear a cotton tee with a linen shirt over it to create a flowy look. You could roll the sleeves up to the point you're comfortable.

Several places have beautiful colors now as well as coupons. Talbots, Chicos, J Jill. Quite often softness is dependant on the price point.

I too have vitiligo which has spread exponentially these past couple of years and now covers at least 70 percent of my body. I wanted to pop in and warn you not to dye your hair. Unfortunately I learned the hard way, theres a chemical in hair dye that can cause/spread it. My hair and scalp are bright white and now spreading down the skin of my forehead :-/

Unfortunately for me, I love the sun and now find I cannot sit out as the vitligo, especially on the hands and scalp burn and darn it can hurt!

@GoneButNotForgotten I never wear short sleeves. Most of the time I wear a classic Chico's tee or tank with an unbuttoned shirt loose over it. (QVC has called the look a shacket.)

It is cool enough even in summer if you watch the fabric content in the unbuttoned shirt.

Yikes, so sorry you're dealing with this! Was this condition ever actually diagnosed by a dermatologist or other specialist?

Is there a way to treat or "cure" this?

If you haven't already done so, check out the website for the American Dermatological Assn ... they have a lot of information on a multitude of skin conditions.

Also ... what part of the country are you in? Climate obviously makes a difference in summer. Humidity can be so annoying to deal with.

Good thing there are a lot of choices of tops or paper thin "jackets" that have loose gauzy sleeves.

I am sorry to hear of this situation. I also have a skin condition called Hidradenitis Suppurativa which can be very disabling. I know how you feel. Question, do you know th exact name of your skin condition. I ask because I used to suffer alone. Then I went on facebook and their is a very large community of people who have my skin condition.

I have learned SO MUCH From them as far as products to use. It might be helpful for you also. As far as clothing, the online Store - Soft Surroundings. has a section called "TOPPERS" which as flowy long sleeve tops. Also HSN vendor MarlaWynne has so many toppers who are shear and long sleeve. @ECBG Appleseeds has great long-sleeved generously sized linen shirts at good prices.

I have a whole lot of long shirt Tees from Road Races I entered for many years. Didn't wear them too much until a few years ago. When my Dermatologist removed some layers of skin cancer from my arms, she advised me to keep my arms covered when outside.

Some are heavier weight than others. In colder weather I wear the heavier weights. I also wore them under my hoodie when ice skating.

Bought some long sleeve thermal shirts I liked that were light weight, also to wear under hoodie when skating. I also wear these same shirts when mowing, and this includes well over 90° weather.

As for people asking me? 🙂 I don't have to explain anything about why I do what, to anyone. If someone asks, which they don't, saying "why do you ask" would be my nice response.

All the light weight thermal shirts I bought from Amazon. As for long sleeve tees? Guess read what material and how much, and % of each they used making them.
