Social Security’s Most Popular Baby Names for 2022

May 12, 2023

Olivia and Liam are once again America’s most popular baby names in 2022.

Liam has topped the list for six years in a row, and Olivia has been the top choice for new parents for four years.

There is only one new name in the top 10, with Luna crawling into the top 10 for the first time.

Here are the top 10 boys’ and girls’ names for 2022:

I sometimes use the SS name site to find names for characters in my novels in different eras. It's interesting to see how names change through the decades.

I, on the other hand, have the distinction of having one of the least popular names. Social Security estimates an average of 4 people a year are given my name.

My grandmother hated her name Amelia. She went by a nickname all her life. I think it's funny parents have found it and other older names again.

It's a relief not to see girl names like Madison or named after a state.

My name was big for a short while in the 90's. I remember being on the beach with 10-14 people calling Rachel!!!!!! I think it's dropped out of the top 20. Luna never existed until the HP books and boom it landed.

I am surprised at Evelyn and Luna for Girls..

For boys Oliver and Theodore are surprising to me, maybe its just because I don't know any...lol!!!!

My Granddaughter is Emma, and she is 10 years old, that name seems to stay very popular!!

Mine was it's most popular in 1960, I was born in '61. It as gone downhill ever since!!

I dislike and have disliked my given name for as long as I have memory. It is the most popular female name for the year I was born. It was so important to me for my son to have a name that wasn't every where and it was a good strong man name. Our children are adults much longer than they are children. His name is Drake Alden. For a short time there was only one other boy named Drake at school.

@DrakesMomma I hear you. My son has a great first and middle name. His first name is not anything unusual but it's not super common.

When he got his senior year yearbook, and he went to a very big high shcool in Southern California, I went through it and there was only one other boy (in the freshman class) with his first name.

I'm surprised those names are as normal as they are and are "real" names. Maybe except Luna.

I am surprised that Michael is not on the list. I thought that was always on the list. That is my favorite male name of all times.

I have never really liked my name. My Mom said she picked that name because a little girl down the street had the same name. Not a good enough reason in my mind.

At my second job, all my receipts have "123" and then the first three letters of my first name. Those three letters are a word that, well, let's just say I wish my name were not spelled the way it is.

I know around five Isa's born in the past year or two. I am surprised it's not on the list.

Luna is an extremely popular for pets too.

My name has never been on the popular list. I was the only one growing up with it except for a couple of old ladies and I hated it.

Now, I hear it once in a while.

I like all the names on on this list.

Mine wasn't popular the year I was born plus it's unisex.

Interesting how books, TV, and film affect name popularity.

The year I was born, the name Mom had picked out for me was #3 on the popularity list.

Thankfully Mom shared the name prior to my arrival, and realized she couldn't stand to hear my grandmother mangle the name every time she said it, so she came up with something very simple and easy for my grandmother to pronounce!
