Happy May Day!

Did anyone ever go around the May Pole? I think I did once when I was in elementary school, but it was a very long time ago.

I wish you all a May filled with happy times, happy shopping, and many blessings!

Summer is on the way! Yay!

I remember doing it in grade school. May is one of my favorite months, the weather is finally nice consistantly. Spring is here and there's much to look forward to!

We always had the May Pole event in grade school. Small town fun, for sure. So glad I went to school there, K-7, because we then moved to Arizona and absolutely nothing was the same--like a different country entirely.

My Girl Scout troup (and Brownie troup too, I think) constructed "May baskets." Very early on May 1st, we filled them with garden flowers to hang on neighbors' door handles.

Living in the Willamette Valley, I always looked forward to Summer days of no school and serious fun. Here in Arizona, May means scorching heat, endless sun, and big A/C bills. So there's no "yay" for Summer anymore. But for those living in a milder Summer climate, please enjoy it a little extra for me.

We always had a May Day Celebration! Crowned a ing and Queen (don't know why).

Had a beautiful May Pole that was "wound" from top to bottom.

Such a Pretty dance! Half the people holding ribbons faced one way and every other one faced the other way. Music started...over, under, over, under until the ribbons were would around the pole to the bottom. Beautiful!

Great Memories!

Nobody does that today?

Yes, we always had a May Pole when I was in grade school. Many, many years ago. Hahaha

We did a May Pole a couple of times, and intertwined crepe paper ribbons are not child's play. Lots of pole peeking out.

Much, much later I was warned about pagan aspects.

I am 82 years old and was surprised to be given a "May Basket " today from one of my daughters friends!

It had candy,pop corn,etc in the cone she made

She told me she would be bring me also a gfift on Mothers Day also

also

it has drizzling rain today and i saw the young man that delivers mynews paper by car pull into my driveway..but paper wasn't on the side walk!??

So,i opened my front door and found it next to the door! What a nice young man to not want me out in the rain...wow!

When I was younger, our church used to have a procession to honor the mother of Christ on May 1st. Young teens would dress up in white and wear flowers in their hair and the whole church with the priest and altar boys would walk around the block and back into the church again.

I remember my older sister doing this. By the time I was old enough. No one did it anymore. I think there is a scene in one of the Godfather movies where this takes place in NYC in an Italian neighborhood. My family was Italian and we we belonged to an Italian church.

I think my sister was may queen one year. I was pretty young, maybe 5 years old at the time.

We made May baskets , they were little makeshift baskets with flowers that we picked. We would put them on doorsteps , ring the bell and run.

Yes I remember the Maypole in elementary schools days.

However I don't remember much about it.

Interesting topic. Sorry I am a few day late, but my dh & I are on vacation and I just saw this post.

Our Mom made my sister and I baskets made out of construction paper. We put in a few flowers, candies and popcorn, put them on the door handle, rang the door bell and ran away.

@Carmie That is beautiful. My church was not Italian, but when I was young, there was always a May Procession. I think

that most of us wore our Easter outfits.

May was always the month to honor the Blessed Mother. We were

encouraged to make a little shrine at home and say the rosary.

I had a little statue of Mary on a table in my bedroom, with some flowers and my rosary.
