Ahh, Peace and Quiet.

We have had a family membervisiting since Thursday, she left around 2 hours ago.

Even though we love her dearly I've discovered at 72 I'm not a fan of overnight/multiple day guests.

My poor cats were in a closet or under a piece of furniture until she went to bed every night then they came out.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 Perhaps the cats need more visitors? My sister's cat, Petunia's age, actually attacked her daughter. Now she won't come in the house unless the cat is locked up.

I agree. I'm not a fan of overnight guests so I'm grateful we rarely have them. It puts a damper on my routine, plus since I work from home full-time, it is a huge disrupter to my day. We haven't had a visitor in a few years, thank goodness!

yes, I agree.. I don't care how close I am to the visitors, I'd rather they stay in a hotel or someplace else. It totally disrupts my mind, my rhythm, and my whole way of thinking since we'd have to be sharing the main bathroom. I'm so set in my ways and it's hard to change even for a few days.

I miss having company!

A chance to chat it up, make a special breakfast, play cards or watch a movie. Some friends from our old neighborhood back home said they'll host a movie night when we're in town.

I'm doing a refresh of my guest bedroom, just took delivery of a new set of bedding. Hoping to invite guests for the summer.

I hope I never get so old or cranky that I can't be bothered.

I'm not a fan of overnight guests either. It's exhausting! 😕

That's what hotels are for! I laugh at the HGTV shows where the couple needs room for their guests. So they buy a bigger house with a bigger mortgage for guests who may stay a week. LOL!!!

I totally understand. Overnight guests always upset my cats. Cats are creatures of habit and they do think they they own their homes. Guests staying multiple days left one of my cats so frazzled, it left her jumpy for several days after they departed. We're in a condo and we don't have space for house guests and I like it that way. We do have some friends and relatives who love spending time with, when we invite them, we pay for a 3 day stay at a nearby motel. We spend quality time together and have fun but we all have our privacy and downtime.

If we choose to travel to visit family or friends, we make sure to book hotel accomodations before leaving home. We prefer staying in a hotel of our choosing.

I enjoy having family-friends stay with me, I have lots of happy memories of our time together in my home & look forward to more. I never cared about my daily routine being disrupted by guests & I'm happy about that, I would've missed so much. And my cat is the greeter, she loves having guests.

I have three cats, one of them could care less, one after a while will come out, the other one will hide the entire time unless its my daughter and her kids that visit often and he knows them.

The orange cat, Gizmo, we had years ago loved company. He thought everyone that came to the house was here to see him.

Petunia, even as a tiny kitten, did not like visitors. Tess is 14 and strangers are a no no.

As to being old and crank, lol, yep and not afraid to admit it.

That being said both DD and I made sure our guest had a good time.

My current cat is pretty mellow; my problem with guests is that my house is sort of sinking. Well, sinking. It wasn't constructed right and there is a canal under it. Didn't know it until a few years after I bought it, and the young men who did the flip didn't know, either. Angelic looking older lady lied. I've still had a place to stay for 30 years, and it's quiet for writing and editing, which I still do daily.

But do I want visitors? No. When Armageddon happens, I don't want visitors to partake in my destiny.

My cat, however, could be a greeter at Walmart. Very friendly to strangers. I have never had a rescue like that--she was in the wild for over 3 years, and had perfectly healthy kittens when she was found. She must have developed "moocher" skills as a homeless, wandering cat, and people must have been kind, because she always immediately makes a friend of a visitor. Most of my visitors are drawn from my five siblings, all cat/animal people, so no problem there. And they have known for years that my house is a little funky.

Many do book hotels spontaneously!

I don't mind guests when we are at the family beach house, because we all are away from our home routine.

When we go visiting we typically stay at a hotel, unless we're visiting one my bils. Two of them have huge places and have horses and my dh loves to ride. They also live far from any decent hotels.

As for non-family guests visiting at our house, none of our friends stay for more than a couple of days. That I can handle with ease.

No pets anymore, so we don't have that worry with guests. We had large dogs, which made a few people nervous. Dogs did fine. They were goofy, loving dogs. Miss them.

@Justholdingon I completely agree with you. When my kids and grandkids come to visit they always book an AirBnB which is fine AND they have a meal with me (that I order in) but otherwise I visit them at the rental.

Now that the COVID situation has stabilized, I started going out to visit THEM in L.A. and stay with them because they have a comfortable guest suite (bed and bath) with a big closet. If they didn't have that type of accommodation, I wouldn't go as frequently.

I too had a really big goofy dog, 175 lb Great Dane. I remember the first time my brother had stayed a few days with me (usually when he came to my area, it was business and he had meetings and hotel.

Anyway when he woke up and my big goofy guy was standing by the bed looking at him, he was afraid to move. They did become good friends!

I do love having overnight guests as long as they dont stay too long. Such as friend of many years comes back for Reunions and spends nights in the hotel then after Reunion she spends an extra day or two with me Or a friend from another town closse to me comes to visit with me and stays overnight rather than driving 40 miles home that night. Those type of guests I love to have.

This young woman is 26 and wanted to bring her dog too. I love dogs but I said no..

#1. My cats were going to be freaked out with a stranger and have never been close to dogs. If confronted my old cat would take the poor pooch's nose off. Not fair to either animal.

#2. Walking the dog with my neighbor's pack of dogs in and out of my yard could spell trouble. I don't want his dogs going after her pet.

I guess her aunt kept the dog while she was here..

I don't like company to stay overnight. I just don't like it, and I don't expect anyone to host me either.

I like to stay at a hotel if I am visiting. If I can't afford to... I stay home.

I live in an apartment. It becomes claustrophobic when others stay. I make no qualms about my feelings because I would rather be honest than make faces behind their backs when I get sick of them. 😝

The only people I don't mind staying are my son,his wife his and pup. Mom and sister...but I don't consider them "company".

I love when my daughters come to visit. They bring their families and dogs and it's pure mayhem. The house is so full we pitch tents in the backyard.
