Eliminating Smoky Smell on handbag

In a thrift shop, I bought the perfect organizer leather handbag in creamy yellow with brown zippers and shoulder strap. Problem: whoever owned it previously was a heavy smoker. Tried remedies inside and out of the handbag.

Tried the Don Aslett odor remover: did not work.

Tried my strongest perfume: did not work.

Tried white vinegar: reduced the smell somewhat.

Success: saturated the spray all over the inside,outside and on every side of the strap. Then slipped it into a heavy duty delivery plastic bag and taped it shut. The next AM: smell totally gone and the bag was dry !!!

Answer: White Vinegar

I wondered if the answer was going to be white vinegar, that is my tried, and true deodorizer after you paint a room, put a shallow bowl of white vinegar in overnight and the paint smell goes away.

I also put a cup of white vinegar in laundry if it has a musty smell from being stored in the attic/ basement.

No it does not smell like a pickle, lol ! It has a fresh clean scent, inside and out.
