@dancingwoman I absolutely love Osprey. They are stunningly beautiful. I used to watch the live Cam in Maine for a couple of years until the eagles took the eggs abdvtried to kill the mother. Then one year she never returned from her long journey to South America. I was devastated so I decided not to watch anymore. Too sad. There are great videos on Vimeo of them fishing. It is a thing to behold

The first time we saw Osprey we didn't know what they were and our neighbors told us. They nest on piers and then fly with a huge wingspan to the top of trees, then fly back down.

My daughter in law has an uncle who lives on the river. His neighbor feeds an Osprey everyday at 4 o'clock. The Osprey watches and waits for him to throw his treat (a fish?) in the air and he swoops down and catches it!

Osprey lovers, your state's Audubon Society may have a nest monitoring program. CT and RI have one. You choose a nest, monitor it throughout the year and submit brief field notes on topics such as date returned to nest, when incubation starts, hatchlings and fledglings.

It's easy and fun to do. The Aububon Society benefits from the data, and by your regular observations you may help your birds - i.e., discovering one tangled in fishing line.
