I'm thinking about getting one of these. But, before I do, I thought I would get some of your opinions . Brand (Roomba, etc), price, model, and are you pleased with the job it does. Does it bump into sofa legs for example? I plan on using it on my very large carpeted living room. What do you think? And, oh yes, does it take all day to vacuum one room? Thanks.

Consider a Roborock available on Amazon. Huge dust bin, huge battery, great CS, and parts are available on Amazon. I have the E4, which vacuums in a back and forth motion. The newer version is an E5. There's no lidar or cameras on it, so it is less expensive yet uses an electronic eye to know where it has been.

One charge will vacuum our 1700 sq. foot house--lots of carpet and tile. It has an amazing brush where long hair hardly gets caught in it. I don't know how it does it, but the bin will be full of hair (mine and our two dogs) but hardly any will be wrapped around the brush. Roborock also makes vacuums with lidar if you want to go a bit more expensive.

There's an active FB community to help with any issues, too. Check out the reviews on YouTube by Vacuum Wars of the E4 or any other Roborock products. I got mine at a promotional price when it first came out, but if it died tomorrow, I would be ordering another E4 or E5 at full price if I had to do so. The cheapest I’ve ever seen it is $180. I can't go without it!

Robot vacs with cameras or lidar might not bump into furniture, but your more basic models will. However, they have a moveable "bump guard" that pushes in when they do so, so your furniture isn't damaged by the vacuum hitting it.

We have an iRobot which we purchased from QVC. I will be honest that it is not used as often as I wish considering the cost.

The downfalls of the iRobot

It is very loud. I see why they recommend running when you aren't home

It is constantly getting stuck in narrow locations

It doesn't stay charged as long as I would like. It gets knocked off the base or is in the middle of running and it starts telling us it needs to be docked.

We were considering getting one because I haven't found a vacuum I like! But in our 1100 sq. ft. condo we couldn't figure out where we would plug it in. It seems that it needs to be plugged in away from furniture and we don't have adequate room for that. So decided against it especially since they are pricey.
