The article I read said it was amicable because of her busy schedule. So maybe this guy lucked out.

I thought for sure they would get married, they were together for six years. It's sad, and very bad timing for her since she's out on tour. The attention will be all about that and not the tour.

Maybe they will get back together one day. They had a private relationship and by all accounts a good one.

I'm not surprised. After 6 years with no marriage, no engagement, no baby; it wasn't a forever relationship. She's going to be touring for the next year or two. I think they both realized they were at the end of their road.

I doubt Taylor will ever marry. She's already married to her career. In my view, the longer they live together, the less likely they will ever marry. People fall in to ruts. And they don't want to change it. 6 years was an awful long time to make you decided if you want to be with the other for the next 60 years.

I read he wrote several of her songs under a different name. I know very little about Taylor Swift but now it is big news that she and her boyfriend of 6 years have gone their separate ways. I do admire anyone who puts on 3 hrs shows with multiple costume changes in 26 cities. Makes me tired to even think about doing that!

As someone who met her first husband three weeks after starting college; dated him steadily (more or less -- he decided he wanted to take a break to "date around" at one point); married after a seven-year courtship; and then had a disastrously spectacular and immediate explosion of the marriage, I am not a fan of extremely long courtships.

Funny how I blew off the counsel of the vice-principal of the school where I was teaching during the period before my first marriage. How certain I was that he did not understand, could not understand, the depth of our love. The vice-principal (a man) very kindly and gently said these words: "You've been going together for seven years? It will never work."

The funny thing is that during the break that my first love wanted us to take, I met someone who introduced me to mature love. He was exciting but grounded, unlike my first husband-to-be. In fact, that guy and I almost married but didn't. But thanks to him, I understood what a vibrant love was all about.

My uncle gave me a word of advice, too, after the first marriage came crashing down around me: "A man knows within six months if he wants to marry you." This advice is good if the couple is older, but the truth is, if one of you is a freshman in college and the other is a sophomore, six months after meeting is not the right time to wed. I'm sure there are exceptions to this, but marriage at such a young age is generally difficult to sustain.

My point: I think Taylor Swift is fortunate to have stepped away from this one. Or, he was. We'll never know.

She might end up being another Joni Mitchell, as I suggested in the thread over a week ago that was devoted to Joni's receiving the Gershwin award. Taylor has the talent and the devotion to her craft to create a staggering legacy.

I don’t know a whole lot about Taylor Swift. But is has to be very difficult to be in a meaningful relationship when one person is so well known, busy and away, difficult for both people for different reasons. It would be a shame if she never had a meaningful and lasting relationship, or children, if that is what she wants. I do think you can have everything, but not all at the same time. Something has to give.
