Celebrate Pi Day Today

Today is Pi Day. 3-14-of any year is one of those quirky remembrances I choose to enjoy. I really like pie. Apricot and coconut are my favorites. I never think of pizza when someone mentions pie, but it is a part of the celebration as well. Discounts are available at pizza pie stores, but I will celebrate with pie on the sweeter side. Enjoy if you choose to participate.

Thanks for reminding me.

I worked for an Engineering firm. We always celebrated it. Not only with pies but also pencils. With the fraction of Pi taken out to about 20 places.

Please remember we were an Engineering firm with "number guys".

OOOOooooo I love pie! I think my fav is a warm apple crumb with a great vanilla bean scoop on top. We actually have half of a peach pie in the freezer my dessert talented husband made. Need to get that out, thaw and EAT!!!

oh wait - not this kind of pie????? Oh well....

My son is in 8th grade and his math class celebrates Pi day. Students can bring in a store bought pie. His class does math activities and students compete on how many numbers of Pi they memorize. At the end they all get to eat the pies bought in.

@PINKdogWOOD I think it is a clever way to have the kids learn about the history of Pi and also they get to eat pie. It makes the lesson interesting: win-win.

At my age, I do good to remember 3.14. I am not certain I could calculate the area of the top of my round dining table either. Good news! I have absolutely no reason to do that. But I will eat pie to celebrate the play on words.

In all seriousness, your son's teacher sounds like a special person. Students will have a fun class and be motivated to master the concept of pi.

@On It all I remember is 3.14 too. I asked my son how many numbers of Pi he knows and he started rattling off the sequence. I was amazed.

Yes, his math teacher is great.

My celebration is complete. I enjoyed a piece of coconut cream pie. I am also celebrating the fact that I do not have to remember how to solve geometry problems using pi.

I'm a volunteer with a national service dog organization. Today the volunteers prepared more than 20 savory and sweet pies for the staff of the NE Regional Center. we try to do this every year on PI (PIE) day.

With all the initials for things being put in text(not texting, just plain old text), I haven't a clue what many of them mean. With most of them I am not interested enough to look it up.

With Pi? If it means pie, why leave out the "e"? Kinda like Arb Day. Could be Arbor Day or Arby's Day, no!

Anyways, can't remember the last time I ate either pizza or a dessert type pie. Will have to tell my wife, she eats both. Might want to join in today.

@hckynutjohn I know what you mean about having to look things up on the internet. Pi is the number 3.14 that is used to determine area of circles. It has a special symbol I cannot find in my iPad. Someone posted a picture of it earlier in this thread. I think it was created in the late 1700's.

Back 15 years or so March 14 was declared the official pi day because of the 3-14- way of writing the date. People started celebrating by eating some version of pie with an e. It is just a fun thing to do, but it is a teachable moment for math teachers.

Hope your wife gets to enjoy some type of pie. Don't forget chicken pot pie, shepherds pie, etc. Maybe you have some in the freezer. I am about to have my second piece of coconut.

I didn't take geometry, but I hear Venn Diagrams mentioned quite a bit. Had to look that up. Did take algebra and think I remember something about Pi Squared. No clue what it means.
