Life Goes On

Just a shout out to the hosts who have to come in and be happy and normal when their world is on shaky ground. If you've ever been part of a company where lay offs have occurred you understand that no one feel secure. On top of that horrible people on SM are taking shots of some remaining hosts , wishing them gone. So if they do a little dance, or act a little silly , who cares ? They are all probably wondering who's next, but they keep going .

Oh, just let it go. They have jobs to do and and that's what they are doing. They are not walking around all hang dog and sad. This isn't the first time QVC has layed off people.

@chrystaltree , I'm sorry but I believe that is what I said. However, they have bills to pay and responsibilities and worrying about having a job , and on top of that trolls making nasty posts be cause they get to keep those jobs, at least for the time being. I'm not the one you should be telling to let it go.

Great point and very true. I was in a company like that where the rumors were going around like wildfire. Were they moving our functions to corporate in another state. It was torture. This is not the time to be rude and nasty. These are all real people with feelings and to be attacked is just mean.

They did and it was a relief when we knew. Some moved, some took a buy out

I agree with @QVCkitty1 . Try a little empathy, they care about their friends and the unknown is worse than the knowing.

I do understand what you're saying. However, for those directly affected, it can be hard to let it go. I think of myself when these things happen within other organizations...and they did at my employer 2 years ago when we decided to outsource some business & IT functions. I thank my Heavenly Father that my role wasn't impacted. At 56, 14 years in at my employer, 2 years away from being able to retire with full coverage health benefits (7 more years for even better benefits, which is my goal), I think to myself what if it had been me? We have plenty of savings, but I don't want to have to touch it. I'm at that age where finding a new job, especially at my salary, would be practically impossible. I am most thankful that God continues to grace me out with a job with great benefits, a great salary and unheard of retirement benefits in this day & age. I hope I am healthy enough to work at least into my late 60's, but I'll take it one day at a time.

People should be retained on merit and sales. Yes, it is a business, so hosts who screw up, are unliked by the masses, have poor sales, and don't know their product from a hole in the ground, are the ones who should have been let go. Younger hosts does not mean better, and they certainly do not bring in a younger audience! . My daughters wouldn't be caught dead watching QVC, as they have better things to do with their life. As for me, I watched QVC for Denim& Co and Christmas in July, only because I have retired! Know your customer QVC, and improve on your customer service, and your horrible return policy!

Life sure does go on. I'm still working at 67 and I have been a state employee for 50 years this coming Sept. I could have retired 20 years ago with full benefits and continued group medical coverage, but I had young kids and couldn't afford to do that. I had not built up enough cash flow yet raising kids.

Fortunately, there haven't been layoffs at our facility but a lot of times when folks did retire, others assumed parts of their duties (including me) because there wasn't a rehire in that position. So because of that, we are down to a skeleton crew, but we make it work. It's ALL controlled by budget, spending, what agency gets what, etc. thats in every business.

We as professional health care employees consider ourselves pretty lucky. While we can't get some of the supplies we used to, that budget has been redirected to total services for our clients. Yeah, we miss the old days but you get past it quickly.

Will I retire this year?? Eh,maybe. I'm having too much fun at work to consider it. While our group is smaller, we still carry on, cut up, chase each other thru the hallways and yep, we act like high schoolers but boy is it fun. When we need to be who we need to be, we are the best at what we do.

Anxiety by all Qurate employees is perfectly understandable.

One of the pillars of Project Athens discussed in Qurate's brand new 10-K is the ongoing need for "work force realignment."

Anyone who's worked for a large corporation knows what that means: more layoffs coming.

All QXH employees are vulnerable, not just the on-air talent.

When and where was the announcement that these hosts were fired? Guess I missed it. Leaving QVC doesn't mean they were fired. They could have been offered an early out, decided to leave on their own, or been let go. Several scenarios. Amazing how personally so many are reacting to their leaving.

@bmorechick , I hear you, I was in health care too and I retired early. However I was urged to come back per diem and I did that for 5 more years. I finally did retire for good and I enjoy it and now a younger person filled my spot and is happy to have a job. Circle of Life.

@QVCkitty1 Yep circle of life for sure. Many of our nurses retired from State service but came back per diem as well in another capacity...like administrative desk work when needed.

The world is not going to come to a screeching halt and fall off it's axis because there was a major layoff at a major corporation and viewers favorite hosts were a casualty.

It's not the first time massive layoffs have happened, it won't be the last.

The way I understand it, both hosts got a severence package. I've been around long enough to know that when these decisions are being made, it's not a popularity contest....it's who is bringing in the numbers. These hosts probably were at the lower end of the spectrum, hence the lay off.

Layoffs happen every day in corporate America. A lot of people are naive about how big business works.
